protein help-- need non-refined PWOP

Hi! I've been having trouble with processed protein sources like whey protein shakes or bars affecting my health due to the sugar alcohols and processed junk (and I want to avoid the soy as well).

I'm wondering if I can use other protein sources as post-workout protein. I like shakeology, but I can't afford it. I make my own cheese and yogurt. Does anyone know if I can use the whey from these for PWOP? Maybe in a shake with some egg whites?

Any other ideas? I'd like something that isn't too calorie heavy for PWOP.

Thanks!

    Meat.

    Uh. duh. thanks.

(I like the added effect of it seeming like a dog is saying "meat".)

If you think about it Shakeology is really just $4 a day. I like my Shakeology and the flavor I like is Vegan Tropical Strawberry. Have you tried ViSalus? It is non GMO Soy protein powder. Also check out Juice + has a whey protein powder that is great too.

I thought Shakeology was a little more on the healthy side, but you're right-- it is processed.
As for cheese and yogurt-- we make these at home. They are raw and made from grass-fed jersey milk (though we skim the cream for raw butter, so it's more like 2%). I'm not worried about these things.

I guess the mindset of a quick and easy protein supplement is just going to have to get broken around here. :) I like seeing little packages with the "22g protein" on them. I know, it's pitiful. I think I'll write my own protein list and post it on my fridge so I can get a better feel of the protein g vs. carb in whatever I'm eating.

Thanks for the idea, but I'm trying to avoid soy as well, so that is another reason I have to ditch the protein bars. Most have soy protein in them.

I can see how this weight loss/fitness journey involves changing a whole lot of how I think. I've come a long way, but realize that I have a long way left to grow.
