Can someone explain what 5 x 5 is? I see this posted a lot. I did an MFP search and someone posted links to a site a while back that explained it all, but the links are broken and I can't get to the info.

5x5 refers to 5 sets working with a weight heavy enough to hit failure/form breakdown in 5 reps. On MFP it also commonly refers to a specific weight training program called Stronglifts 5x5 which is based entirely on 3 days a week of weight training doing 5 basic compound lifts following this format.0

Uh, what? 5x5 is not a Stronglifts thing, it's a basic strength training program. There are plenty of 5x5 programs and variants out there.0 -
