Hi everyone,
11/11: 011 AF days completed since 10/31/25! (Last alcoholic beverage: 10/30/25.) Still going strong.
I'm focused on gratitude and hope these days, and that is really helping me.
I will check back in tomorrow.
Best wishes,
💞Carole

You're so right about waiting for 5ish minutes!! When I can do that, it really works!

I’m a little behind on my planned check-in for this week — life got away from me a bit! Last week didn’t go quite as planned, and I ended up going over my A days by two.
The reason? Some unplanned visitors stopped by, and since I’m mainly a social drinker, that threw me off course. It wasn’t a huge derailment, but it definitely reminded me how easily those “just one or two” moments can add up when the routine changes.
Because I went over my A days last week, I’m planning to stay AF this week. Hoping a little reset helps me get back into balance and remind myself why I’m doing this in the first place.
AF = 7
A = 5

Well, this review is killing me. I hate doing all this crap! Oh well, I guess this is what I get paid for.
Finished the cross stitch last night, and tonight I made a little pillow for my new chair from an old t-shirt.
I need to pick up my order from Michael’s so I can start the last cross stitch pattern in the book. And, I’m going to research different knitting styles because I want to restart my afghan.

@NonnieDoiron Cute pillow! And I did know where that came from ~ LOL
@Walela617 Keep up the good work!
I decided to do a little gambling today. I haven't been playing much. I was getting ready to leave and I hit a $7,500 jackpot. Not to shabby! And I didn't have anything to drink!

CONGRATULATIONS, @WestCoastGirl_1! That's AWESOME! Congrats on keeping your AF streak going, too! 🏆 I hope you got to celebrate with a nice dinner or something!

Sounds like everyone here is doing really well with goals. You inspire me!
I’m finding it harder to keep my AF streak going and know it will end soon (something planned for Monday, so will likely have an A day then if not before.)
Reporting progress for the day:November goal 5 A / 25 AF days
At the end of the 12th I have 12 AF days (streak is 18) and 0 A days.
Hope everyone has a good night!8 -
I lost another pound! 15 to go. Same diet just cut out the after-lunch chocolates. Instead: eating 1-2 TBSP natural crunchy peanut butter and walking on my home treadmill 15 min. after lunch. Removed the sugar craving and I am not hungry at dinner.
Tracking AF and A days is a bit risky for me but I am doing it anyway to gain momentum. Here's how my brain works when I track this way - let's say I made it to the final week with few A's, then I believe I have some earned "A" points I can use and I used to tend to drink more in the final week of the month. It's like a reward. And it's programmed in me from the Weight Watchers "points mentality".
Note to self: in the second half of the month, it's time to be mindful of mind games and tricks my brain will attempt to play. Stay in control.
AF=11

@NonnieDoiron awesome you didn't reward yourself with drinks when you hit 100 days. Sense of pride and well being not-drinking is a way better reward.

@globalhiker I can totally relate to your perspective - it happens to me more on a weekly basis…."good" all week means more drinks for the weekend. That's why my LA goal is more around keeping within my drink limits on days that I do drink (and gradually lowering them!) while trying to keep a few dry days in per week. Great count for this month so far, you're doing great work!
In fact everyone is really showing up for themselves this month!! Great job! I am actually in that boat too - I reallllllly wanted a glass of wine last night, made even more tempting when my husband cracked beer. I wish I could say it passed after 5 minutes but it lingered. I was able to surf that urge though - had 2 Recess mocktails and kept reminding myself of the negatives to having a drink and made it through the night AF.

Thanks @WestCoastGirl_1! I’m glad you knew where that’s from. It’s one of two tv series I can never get enough of. My son looks and behaves just like Sheldon, too, which makes me love it even more!
If I’m being honest, @WestCoastGirl_1 and @globalhiker, I wanted to have a sip of that whiskey on Monday. But, (my big butt) weight loss stopped me. My scale just isn’t playing nice. This HRT is really messing with me when it comes to swelling and retaining water. I can feel it in my joints, and it makes the scale go up by a pound or two then drop back down then go back up again. I’m real tired of the roller coaster, and I just don’t need the effects of alcohol on top of that nonsense!
Making stroganoff for dinner tonight. It’s a favorite around here. After dinner, I’m going to continue unraveling my afghan. I started doing it last night, and it was rather therapeutic. Lol
Calling it AF early…

@NonnieDoiron I like Young Sheldon, too. You know how Sheldon always wears two shirts? Well, I used to do that too - when I was in my late teens and 20's. I grew up in Southern CA and it rarely got super cold. So I would wear a thermal under my short sleeve T-shirt when it was cool. And you probably thought Sheldon was the originator of that look! LOL
I hate to tell you…but, I've been losing weight consistently since I started cutting back on alcohol last month. I've lost 14 lbs since the 7th of last month. And I haven't been fluctuating. But, I'm not on HRT I really don't know anything about that. I don't even know why it is taken. I guess for menopause symptoms. That was many years ago for me.
Happy unraveling! 😀

@globalhiker When you get to the end of the month and feel that you deserve more A days. If you're moderating, go ahead and have an A day. But, what I would do is set a max for the number of A days per week. Maybe limit yourself to 2 or 3 A days/week and I, personally, would not drink two days in a row.
I'm still aiming for 90+ days, until after I have my labs done. I was thinking if I make my doctor appt for the first week in February, I will have over three months AF (Nov, Dec & Jan). My tests should be good by then. Another goal that I've considered is to remain AF until I'm at my ideal weight (or close to it).

@chicbuc Where have you been hiding? I see you have had some success lately.
Have you been reading? I'm not sure if you read my post from last night. I went to our little gambling establishment across the street and won a $7500 jackpot. The machines are actually Oregon Lottery video lottery machines. But they are the same machines that the casinos have. They're everywhere around here. All you have to do is serve food and some sort of alcohol to have them. It can be a bit of a problem if you have an issue with gambling because they have them in restaurants, bars, and they have stand-alone gambling establishments where they have slots, lottery tickets, minor food items, and alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. I was good and just drank water.
4 -
@globalhiker I think I read your post wrong. I guess you are not trying to moderate, but when you track it tempts you somewhat to drink at the end of the month. I know you can reach your goals! You were my hero going as long AF as you did. You can do it again!

Hi everyone,
11/13: 013 AF days completed since 10/31/25! (Last alcoholic beverage: 10/30/25.)
After stressing so much about my annual!, job performance review, it ended up being very good and I got the standard! 2% raise. Not quite up to cost of living increases, but I'll take it! I've been with Mass General Brigham for just over four years now (full time). I am very grateful.
Have a nice night and a great day tomorrow!

I went and played the slots again this afternoon. I hit a jackpot again. This time it was $2,500. I can't complain.

@Walela617 Hi Carole! I just wanted to say you are doing really good. Keep up the good work! No, I didn't go out to dinner yesterday. But, we went out for lunch today. Then I went to play again. I figured it was a mistake since I won yesterday. But, I ended up winning again. I think I'll take a break for a while…I don't want to push my luck!

@WestCoastGirl_1 I definitely read every day. I just don't always have the time to answer. I saw your win and think the win is great, but the fact that you didn't drink is amazing!
Keep on keeping on, everyone! Have a great Friday!

We made it to Friday! Congrats - to raises, casino winnings, weight loss, less alcohol, and to everyone working on hitting goals.
I like the idea of not drinking until hitting weight goal because you get a nice reward in the end for that effort.
AF=12 days
A=1 day

@Walela617 Congrats on getting through your review and your 10 day medallion. I always found job reviews stressful!
