Welcome to the new posters! I am wondering where Ann Marie and Annie have gone and hope they will join us again soon.
I have a lot of comments to post but mostly because I keep getting so behind reading. So, bear with me for I know most of what I comment on has been said.
Kylia ~Your Christmas decorations look great! I want to say how much I admire your schedule for getting things done in the home.
Melanie ~ Sorry your son has hurt your feelings and hope you feel better soon. I can go back and remember all the times I said ugly things to my mom before she passed and really regret it. Your son will arrive at the same decision at some point. Others have given you good advice.
Barbie ~ Getting out with the people in your community is a wise decision. I am trying to figure out how I can meet new people and have someone to talk to more often. I do not know the names of any of my neighbors and the long time friends I have had have moved on.
Lanette ~ Congrats on solving some of the technical issues that have come up. I spent 2 hrs this AM trying to get into my SS account so I could put in my new number.
Heather ~You are so blessed to have your grandchildren near. Edie, Bea, and Max make life enjoyable.
Melanie ~ Our house has stippled ceilings and I hate them. Mostly because we have a lot of overhead ceiling fans that tend to stir up dust that gets caught in the crevices.
Heather ~ Johnβs photo of the clouds is very beautiful but makes you think that it must have been a dreary day.
I accomplished 4 things today: returned my old iphone in to get my discount on the new one, had an eye exam and ordered a new pair of glasses, went to have my audiologist pair my hearing aids to the new phone, and got my lost Amazon account back. The scary part about the eye exam was that I have the beginnings of macular degeneration and need to see a retina specialist.

Lanette - that is the remains of Brighton's West Pier, an icon for the city. It burnt down in two fires. It is a wonderful roost for starlings. We have famous murmurations. In the sixties I used to walk out on it often. Now we only have the Palace Pier left.

I would wear something like that to the symphony!
I am interested to see it in a jersey material. I wear a lot of drapey cardigans in a jersey material but none have the cape/hood feature.

Sadly no, never went to a community bath house in Japan. There was one hotsi bath house on base that I attended. You had to make an appointment. First you'd sit in the steam part and she'd give you a bucket of cold water and laidle for you to pour over yourself. Then you stepped out and sat on the low stool while she washed your hair, scrubbed your back, and arms. Then you'd stand up and she scrubbed your legs and gave you a sudsy washcloth to wash your privates. Then she would rinse you off and you would step into the ofura or hot bath. She'd check on you to make sure you were ok, then you'd get out, dry off and it was time for the massage. It was a couple hours of heaven! It was like $40.
Another time a group of ships wives and I were in Hong Kong at the hotel awaiting the ship to pull in. The hotel had a spa and the wife I was sharing a room with (until our husbands arrived) said we should check out the spa. It was a facial, then they exfoliated us! We each had 5+ ladies surrounding our naked bodies (we had washcloths covering our privates and breasts). They were all chatting with each other, having a great time all the while scrubbing our bodies with a sudsy, grainy mixture. Every so often as we laid there giggling with cucumber slices over our eyes, they'd tap us to show all the dead skin they were getting! The fact that all these ladies were in their bras and panties just made the experience surreal and utterly hilarious. No they didn't try anything, lol!

Heather β you deserve all the happiness Edie brings you
barbie β an awful lot of times with J&C I keep saying to myself βif you canβt say anything nice, donβt say anything at allβ. Sometimes I have a sore tongue from biting it, but itβs all working out.
Kay β having to get your rings resized (congrats) is very good incentive to not want to gain the weight back. WTG
After work stopped at the church. One of the groups collects wine corks (I remember them doing this last year) and my neighbor had a few bags of them, so I took them to the church. While there I picked up donations and the pastor gave me some ham and other things which were refrigerated so I took them right to the soup kitchen.
Rebecca β I thank you for your input. But Sundays are my days to make dinner. Jess makes it on Mon Fri and Sat, I do Tues, Wed, Thurs and Sun. I know they like different foods (more spicy) than we do. Actually, than Vince likes. I donβt mind a bit of flavor. So I really donβt feel like Iβm cooking all the time for them. Like tonight Jess made a chicken. The most I did was checked that it was up to temp and put it back on until it was up to temp. She did all the prep, etc. I just am not the type of person who waits until the absolute last minute. I like to plan somewhat. Loved your relating the info about the bathhouse
Rita β Iβve heard that about the potato taking out the salt, too. And like you, Iβve never tried it. I just wish there was some way to take the salt out of food when you go out. Oh wellβ¦.
Made the pumpkin pie for T day and have it in the refrig now. Iβll make the apple pie tomorrow and then we have ceramics at night
Decided that I really need to send a sympathy card to the family of the girl at BK who died. So tomorrow after work I need to get my car inspected and then Iβll probably have to stop at WalMart to get celery (Jess used it up tonight and we need some for T day stuffing. But in a sense, itβs a good thing that Iβm buying it because I like the celery hearts and I know J doesnβt care
Carol β when you say that your house has stippled ceilings, is that like popcorn ceilings? We have them down at the condo and they dot rap the dust, etc. Thatβs one reason why I really want to get rid of them. So sorry about your eyes. I donβt know, is there something they can do (give you eyedrops????) to slow theprogression?.

Lanette β when my husband and I were in Japan in 2012, we went to an Onsen. I don't think my husband had a great experience and he didn't stay in very long. But my experience was amazing!
Yes, there was a men's side and a lady's side.
Yes, no one wore any clothes. We were each given a washcloth, but that was it.
I wasn't sure what I was doing and got it wrong at first, and then an elderly Japanese lady who spoke no English took me in hand and walked me through the process. I was in there at least an hour, as were about a dozen other ladies I didn't know.
In July, my husband and I went to the mainland (mainland Australia), to a hotel and spa that was quite similar to a Japanese Onsen except people had to wear swim suits and it was co-ed so we went in together. It was marvellous - definitely a highlight of our trip.

Melanie - our adult children can cut so deep, Iβm sorry youβre experiencing this.
Rori - I hope you are able to secure the angel flight attendant.
What a shame your trip has been spent in a hospital.Lisa - Itβs not quite the same, but have you ever tried the crockpot lasagna. Iβve made it a couple of times and although I like my oven baked one better itβs great for feeding a crowd without much work.
I like the new sweaterLanette - I love baths. I am so claustrophobic in a shower. I am wishing I had some epsom salts here tonight.
That SIL is my brotherβs wife, also named Tracy without the βeβ.Rita - My MIL said that the potato might work because potatoes do absorb salt although sheβs never tried it.
I came home at lunch to make a call for MIL to get her Canada Dental Plan number as her bottom plate broke. I will take them to a denturist tomorrow morning.
When I was leaving I fell on the end of the walkway from our house to the driveway. I hit my hip, the same one I injured 6 years ago and still struggle with, and my temple/head/cheek. How I didnβt break my new glasses I donβt know, but thankfully I didnβt. They are only 1 week old.My BIL sold MILβs lawn tractor today, a riding mower really. Her daughter and granddaughter are calling her wanting money from it instead of paying the lady for it that they didnβt pay over the last two and a half years. They donβt know that we have a POA in place, and apparently they have no food in the house. Rodger is adamant that we only pay the mower off and I am feeling we should give them half and pay the other half after Christmas, if Mom thinks theyβre hungry it will upset her and she deserves some peace. On the other hand we donβt want them to think sheβs their saviour anymore. Now comes moral dilemmas, I just donβt trust that they actually arenβt just wanting it for something other than food.
Iβm a sucker if I think people are suffering. She wants to send them Christmas money this week. Maybe thatβs enough.Iβm sitting here with an ice pack on my hip and a heating pad on my back but at least I have the majority of my Christmas stuff done. Mom was asking when I was decorating and at the same time saying people decorate too early. I decided to put everything but my village and tree up on Saturday. I have a date on the 6th to do those with Kaitlyn and Michaela.
Kaitlyn came tonight and cut Rodgerβs and Momβs hair. We had an easy supper of grilled cheese. I bought a loaf of bread on Thursday and hadnβt looked at the BB date, it was Saturday! It was an easy way to get rid of bread that was a little stale.
Kaitlyn had a box of Christmas decor to get rid of and she brought it to my place so I could post it on a local Freebies page on FB. I called my neighbour first and she came over and took a couple of things; I posted the rest on the group and someone came to pick it up within 20 minutes. Easy peasy!
Well I should quiet down and head to bed. I feel it will be a long night with my hip. Itβs the side I sleep on. π

trying, but not doing a very good job, of catching up- still a few pages behind.
Most of the comments I was going to post, have all been said already.
I need to do better at staying on track here.
I grew up where we raised all of our own meat and veggies. The beef was so good and tender. I got spoiled. Now I rarely eat steak but cook it often for dh. For me, it has to be tender and well seasoned.Going up tomorrow to take mom for her follow up appointment to get her MRI results. I will spend the night, just to spend more time with her. My sister has moved in and from what I have heard, it is NOT going well at all and it has only been a week. I am sure mom will fill me in on everything while we go to her appointment.
Dh and ds will go shopping tomorrow while I am gone to pick up the salmon for Thursday- they dont want to wait until Wed. when the stores will be crazy busy. I will cook some on Wed night and the rest early on Thursday- having dinner at son's place(formerly MIL's place) but I am cooking most of it.
Looking forward to a nice dinner at that house and no drama or stress- just the four of us. Ds and his fiance will have lunch with her family then dinner with us at their place so I have plenty of time to finish cooking- everything is simple. Haven't figured out dessert yet.Had our Friendsgiving potluck with zumba class this evening- it was fun but something isn't sitting well with my stomach. Having some ginger tea now- may go to bed a bit early but trying to catch up here first while I drink my tea.

finally got caught up, ginger tea has helped but I am very tired- heading to bed.
I will check back in the morning if I have time, if not, on Wed evening when I get back from mom's

Iβm a sucker if I think people are suffering. She wants to send them Christmas money this week. Maybe thatβs enough.- Chances are they are lying about not having food in the house β¦ in order to play on emotions. Very doubtful that they are suffering.
- Christmas is coming, they can pick up extra shifts at the local shops for Christmas in order to get food.
- You'd be helping by finally paying the mower off. One less thing for everyone to worry about.
Sorry about your fall. I hope you feel better soon.

Good Monday!
Lisa-I like that design, but would want arms. I frequently have a shawl or large scarf with me. I am not a coat person, but love a warm shawl. I also forgot to say that I loved the colors on the purple sweater! And yes, since I got my own hot tub , I am resistant to go in any other. I know how mine is upkept. I am also the only one ever in it.π
Melanie- I think the writing would be great. These ladies have the best ideas. Somedays (okay alot) I need the reminder that Machka posted to remind myself that I have made a positive impression in others lives. Writing your story sounds wonderful for you.
I learn so much from this group. Sometimes it is a simple idea other times it has been life changing.
Good Tuesday,
I really need to learn to send.π€£
Tracey- I agree with Machka. They are owed nothing. Have they paid rent or utilities? Nope. They took advantage of a kind person. There are resources if they are indeed hungry. Sorry about the fall. I hope you did no real damage. Gentle π«
Lisa- I can see all the shapes and colors going around in your mind.
Allie and Debbie-Safe travels.
Rori-You have been a great friend. Wow....
My oldest granddaughter was in town yesterday and stopped by for hugs. It was good to see her.
Christmas lights hung at work yesterday. It was sunny and 61Β°F! Rain today. 38Β°F is the forecasted high on Thursday. Inside work decorations will be Friday.
I love the updated BMI table that one of you posted. It agrees with my doctors that my weight is good. I keep telling myself it is healthy, beautiful, and wonderfully made. I have learned that I require some separation of upper inner thighs and also butt cheeks when walking! Sweat pants alone don't cut it anymore. I have a scar lick a sideways episiotomy from when I was 14 yo. It rarely bothers me. But this week the underwear rubs it wrong! So this morning it is my biker shorts with bits tucked in place. I wear them under dresses when walking lots . Protects the thighs and now the cheeks .π€
Carol-Yeah for the success! Hugs and peaceful thoughts. A local community center for meeting people and getting out.
I do love our Christmas lights. My DH is training the cats to stay out of tree (in man cave). Now to finish Christmas cards.
I will post this now. Walking then have kitty boxes to clean, bed to make, get ready for work. But will leave you with some furry love.
Hugs!

Morning my chicks,
Oven guy never showed yesterday, supposed to be here this morning - if not by noon, will find a different company and try again. We have lots of other resources to use, from the grill to the air fryer to the top of the stove, which works fine, so not worried about Thanksgiving Day and dinner for his brother. If not lasagna, we'll just have steak and shrimp or something else from the freezer.
Weird how our ovens have gone blink at Thanksgiving, twice in a row. I get "planned obsolescence," but seriously, EXACTLY four years? Enough to make you want to join the tinfoil hat brigade.
Doing a lot of research on artificial intelligence and AGI and why they're having such issues with it, especially its tendency to generate spurious links and resourcesβwhich has become a real issue when lawyers use it to cite cases to prove their points. AI has been known to make up cases and statistics to "prove" a point, and that's kind of fascinating.
Working on my daughter's quilt today, or actually, just working on learning a technique called "reverse applique" that I'm thinking of using for her quilt. I always enjoy learning something new (you may have noticedβ¦π€ͺπ
Time to get a third cup of coffee in for Corey, and get some rugs in the washer first, though.
Later, y'all,

π I taught third grade in a dependents' school at Naha AFB in Okinawa after college (1968-70). I lived on base in Bachelor Officers' Quarters but got off base a lot including going to a bath. It was a great experience. I was in my 20's and full of adventurous spirit. I don't know if I'd find it as comfortable now as i did then.
π Carol, You're doing great. I still consider a day a success if I accomplish one thing. Is there a Senior Center where you live? That could be a good place to join an activity or take a class as a way to meet people and make a new friend. I am more restricted because I don't want to leave my dogs for too long. I have a friend who is being treated at the retina center for macular degeneration. The treatment is going well. The tricky part is finding someone to drive because they dilate your eyes for the treatment.

Ah, good deal thenπππΌ. You have a kind of schedule. That's good.
OOh I got loads of weird stories, awkward stories, like the time a bunch of us dependents took the ship down to Shimoda for a festival. It was festival commemorating Commander Perry's arrival to Japan (and kind of taking over). So many really drunk Japanese guys in the hats Perry wore cheering and stumbling around. They had co-ed bathrooms out in town. One room, guys urinals on the right as you walked in, and stalls on left. No big deal, but some of the wives were horrified, and were trying to wait until all the men were gone before venturing in. Like that's gonna ever happen. You are going to be waiting until forever!

Tracey!!! What Machka said⦠that's all I've got.
I'm just crazy-busy, even being off this week. Eyes are paid and had the last virtual visit with the surgeon yesterday. ONE WEEK from Thursday I'll have a new left eye, a week later a new right eye! WOOHOO!
Happy Thanksgiving, if I don't get back again!

Woke up with a kink on the right side of my neck. Why? These are still a mystery to me π€·π»ββοΈ
I mentioned that my DH took me to a movie and dinner on Sunday. Saw Catch me if you can 2. Fun movie. We did a little shopping before the movie and loaded up on clothes for the grandkids at Old Navy. Thank you to our neighbours in the south for the sale, as we partake in your Thanksgiving holiday deals. Everything was 40% off. They each have a birthday and Christmas coming up so I stocked up. These are 2 jackets I bought. Their dad has similar π
I love shopping for them.
I am feeling better today. Not as sad or angry. Work keeps me busy.I went to thaw the small icebox part of our mini refrigerator yesterday where we keep drinks. My husband couldnβt stand the wait so he started chipping at the ice. Heard a hiss and realized he had hit the freon line π¬ Whoops. Will be looking for a new one I guess.
Carol- sorry to hear about your eye issues. Hoping the specialist is able to help you out. You sure got a lot accomplished in one day!
Allie- safe travels! Enjoy your visit.
Lisa- I am starting with a guided journal to help me get started. I find that I look at the page and nothing comes to me. Maybe this will help me with a place to start.
Rebecca- you have led an extremely extraordinary life! Have you always been open to new experiences? I would be super self conscious in those situations. I admire your sense of adventure.
Tracey- after slipping on ice and breaking my leg last spring I have gotten a pair of winter boots and sneakers with spikes in the soles. From a Canadian company called Icebug. I never thought Iβd fall that badly. I feel very stable in these since the snowfall and icy conditions. Hope your hip isnβt hurt too badly.
I have found that AI can be misleading. We have been reminded a lot at work that the information it spews out is only as legitimate as the info that it has gathered. We have to be extremely careful when developing presentations or finding info for veterinarians as it can give you bad information. The other thing is that it can gather data from published papers without giving credit to authors. Can get you in trouble if credit is not given.Carla - WooHoo π Should be a game changer for you!
Take care of yourselves π

Carol - Glad to hear things are coming together for you and you got that Amazon account straightened out.π
Regarding your comment about finding friendsβ¦. Is there anything you like to do - crafts, volunteering, book clubs, etc.? My local college has continuing education classes in everything imaginable. Sometimes a person can find kindred spirits who are easy to form a friendship with at these places. Barbie had a good suggestion with Senior Centers. Speaking for myself, I know it can be a challenge getting out of the house when I'm not used to going out and spending time for myself, and I still feel like I need to rush home. When Mr. & Mrs. Roger moved into the neighborhood 10 years ago, she was homesick and joined a garden club. Found a friend who lived a street over and they ended up doing a lot of things together.
Also, hope the early macular degeneration is the kind that doesn't progress or progresses very slowly so your reading and driving are never impeded.
Tracey - so sorry to hear about your fall, hope the heating pad helped. Did MIL's house foreclosure sale happen? If so, I wonder how long until the tenants have to move? Yes, MIL's concern for SIL's and granddaughter welfare is a dilemma. If they need housing and food, there should be local resources for them as Machka and Kylia mentioned. It's one thing for MIL to send them some money for Christmas, but she shouldn't feel obligated to continue to support them. There will probably come a time she needs her money for her own welfare. I hope she is out from under all the debt they caused.
Rebecca - loved hearing about those bath/spa places. I feel more relaxed just reading about all the pampering, lol. π Wild times with those Commander Perry celebrants! Impressive weight loss chart, great job. π
Melanie, Tracey, Carla and Margaret - looks like the freezer door has or will fling wide open for the next few days. My relatives in Indiana won't see above freezing as well. Stay safe, ladies. No more slip-sliding.
Lisa - sorry to hear about the oven repairman, good that you have plenty of cooking options. Planned obsolescence no doubt. AI and AGI can be scary. I was going to joke that when AGI can empty my septic tank or clean the moss off my roof, then I'll be all for it. BUT I can see this being a reality in my lifetime.π€ Heck, maybe in the next few years. Thing is, anything "smart" can be hacked. The computers in new cars, smart appliances. When/if they get shut off or remotely programmed to cause damage, then what? The chances of that happening are probably very slim.
Melanie - last time I had Rosie in to see the vet, Dr. Amanda, she complained that AI for vets, as far as she was concerned, was very poor right now. Cute jackets! Maybe you can get a photo of the kids modeling them some time. ππ Shopping is good therapy for me, even if it's putting things in the Amazon cart and deleting them later, lol. That takes will power though. π
Rain is on the way this afternoon, and thankfully the weatherman has eased up on below freezing weather and the possibility of snow next weekend, though he could change his mind. Lots of snow in the passes today.
I sauteed a huge bag of collards this morning, most will go into the freezer in flat packs. Also, thawing cod for supper tonight and a pound of burger in the fridge for chili tomorrow.
Well, I'm losing my enthusiasm for that Thanksgiving buffet with T, her DH and aunt at the restaurant. All lovely people but that means getting dressed up, driving there, finding parking and maybe walking a block in the rain. It might as well be slogging uphill ten miles in a driving snowstorm, lol. T is stopping by tomorrow, maybe she'll get me excited about it again. Otherwise I'd be happy tooling down the road to get one of K's turkey dinners at his restaurant. T is good either way, never any pressure or guilt.

Listening to bang, bang, crash, OW! from the kitchen. No, not the worker bees, but my husband, who let them diagnose the problem that he already knew, and then send them on their way when they quoted more than half the price of a new range to replace a $30 part. The hazard of a man who knows how to fix things is that he never, ever believes anyone else can fix it as well or as cheaply as he can. Unfortunately, most of the time, he's right. This is quite helpful at work.
Oh, it's also helpful at home, too, but not exactly good for my peace of mind.
I just had to clean up his bare foot and bandage it where he cut it (don't askβI didn't).
Barbie, darlin', I'm channeling your statement that this is an opportunity for spiritual growth.
Through gritted teeth, at the moment.
Still growing in Arkansas,

Ah Melanie, I have always been a bit of an odd bird. Whether it was from living with comedians in the 1980's, or just my own quirkiness, its been a crazy ride. In 2000's I remember laying out in the nude in our backyard, then researching a place to actually do that without getting arrested. So we joined a clothing optional resort called Laguna Del Sol outside of Sacramento CA. The fact that they took my three sons aside and told them it was a save space for them. That if they every felt weird about anyone around them, to tell the office and they would be gone. That made us as parents feel good about joining. Our sons were 4, 9 and 13 yrs old at the time. The younger two were mostly naked by the time we would pull in the parking lot, and the 13 yr old was able to keep his shorts on mostly. There were rules of nudity in the pool area, so he complied no issues. When you see 70+ people in a pool area, they aren't sexual people just nude people appreciating the sun and water. interestingly enough when you put a suit on a nude form it kind of becomes a sexual thing. It was a positive experience those 10+ years for my sons.
Sadly Washington State is NOT a great place to practice nudism!ππ. Too cold, things would be falling off and rolling in the grass!
