    Hi, Shelley, and welcome!

That goal is possible: If a hedonistic aging hippie flake like me - a woman with a very limited budget of willpower or discipline - can do it, I think most any more-sensible adult can. I lost about 50 pounds at age 59-60 using MFP, while severely hypothyroid (medicated) and of course menopausal. I've been maintaining a healthy weight for 9+ years since.

Yes, the quality of life improvement has been more than worth the effort required to accomplish . . . which was less effort than I'd expected, once I got serious about taking the necessary steps (but avoided the blogosphere's mythology and nonsense about details).

    Wishing you success!

Hey, Shelley! Welcome! I have been on MFP twice....the first time Iost 50 pounds, but I had a rough patch and gained back 30. I have been back since a year ago last September, have lost that 30 pounds and am going for another 10. I will be here even past the time I reach my goal....it keeps you honest. It's not a temporary fix....it's a lifetime change. And it's not a race....as I just wrote, it took me just over a year to lose the weight I have. But every minute was worth it.… I am a type 2 diabetic and I no longer take insulin....that's a big deal for people like me. Not to mention I can get back into my smaller clothes again and being lighter at my age (71) is so much easier!

I belong to one of the groups in the "Challenges" community. We post every day and support each other along the way. I credit that group for giving me the incentive to keep going. But no matter what you decide to do moving forward, I wish you all the best of luck with your weight loss journey!
