Slow progress feels like easy progress

I have been tracking food and slowly building up exercise for about three months. I have lost 17lbs and am now able to walk parkrun again in just under an hour. In the past I would have been frustrated by the slowness but now I am thinking, small changes give small results but those small results have a permenance about them. Because there is no drastic diet and no ridiculous fitness campaign just small maintained progress, I feel good about it and confident. Here's to slowly but surely.

Seventeen pounds in 3 months, over a pound a week on average, is excellent progress. Congratulations!

And I think you've come to a great practical insight. I think many people who arrive here would find more success if they took that approach. An easy plan that delivers gradual results can get us to goal weight (or better physical fitness) in less calendar time than some extreme tactics that result in bouts of deprivation-triggered over-eating, breaks in the action, or even giving up altogether because it's just too hard.

As a bonus, the gradual, manageable approach gives us more and better opportunities to find and practice the new, practical, personalized eating and activity habits that will not only get us to a healthy weight, but help us stay there long term, ideally permanently.

    Good show!

Exactly, @NatalieCutler7672 , exactly! Changes which feel easy are ones we are best able to keep doing, and don't underestimate how small changes add up over time: that same 17 pounds, if the same rate is kept up, will turn into almost SEVENTY (70) pounds over the course of a year! All without feeling like you are depriving yourself of living along the way.

    In summary:

    Losing weight…
    Feeling better…
Not feeling stressed while doing it…
Not feeling deprived while doing it…

Sounds like you've discovered the true "secret" weight loss plan! Congrats on your progress to date, and best wishes towards your future goals!
