DECEMBER 2025 Monthly Running Challenge
DECEMBER 2025 Monthly Running Challenge
WARNING: Following this thread may be addictive; it gets very talkative...miss a day and you can be 50 posts behind. This is the most popular challenge on MFP. If you found us in the middle (or end) of the month, you're still very welcome to join in - no requirements or special invite needed. Once you post, that's it you're in. And yes, we do this every month.
You set your own pace and distance for the month. We will all be doing it together. This is your virtual running group to help keep you accountable, to enjoy a virtual post-run coffee with your fellow runners, and to make new friends and learn a few things.
This is a continuation from the NOVEMBER 2025 Monthly Running Challenge which can be found at:
https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10951197/november-2025-monthly-running-challenge/p1?new=1
Anyone can join in, new and old, and if you found this thread late, you can join in at any time.
We have members ranging from total beginners all the way to Boston Qualifiers and beyond. We are a friendly and encouraging bunch. You never need to be ashamed of your miles. If you are making the effort, you will find only support here.
Here are the details from last month that apply again:
Anybody want to join in for a running challenge? Set a goal here and update us every day. OPTIONAL: You can post your progress by creating a ticker at http://www.tickerfactory.com (if creating one seems difficult, or you're like me and can't be bothered, then just type in your daily miles in this thread).
You can run, walk, or do treadmill - just be consistent. Don't let the high (or low) goals of others intimidate you. Some do 25 miles, others do 50, some go higher than that, some do lower; it's entirely your goal and therefore completely up to you. We help motivate each other, so what do you say? If you're new to running, set a low goal. If you're from a part of the world where miles aren't your thing, log your distances in KMs. And if you'd rather log your progress by time rather than distance, then you're entirely free to do that as well.
Feel free to set your goal now but wait until DECEMBER 1, 2025 to start logging your runs!
Also, don't forget to join our group which can be found at:

After you run, come into this thread and post what you did (don't forget to hit the bookmark in the upper right corner to bookmark this thread). Simply keep a running tally of what you've done this month and interact with the others. Many folks come in here and chit-chat it up, even on their rest days or while recouping from injury. This is a very social group and we talk about many things (sometimes even about running). It's a very friendly bunch here so don't be afraid to say hi (even if this is your first time), talk about a recent or up-coming race, ask questions, provide answers, or just lurk-n-learn. Participation is what makes this group successful.
Not quite sure how to log your runs? Follow the examples of many other challenge members. Even take a peek at last month's thread (posted above).
OPTIONAL TICKER******
Info on tickers since I know there will be questions. Sign up for an account at http://www.tickerfactory.comandcreate your ticker. Then you need to update it after you finish a run and post it here. Here is what you will need to do.
After setting up your ticker, you will need to make note of the weblink they give you so you can return. An example would be:
http://www.tickerfactory.com/exercise/w6K1EiX/ <<<< the last part will be a part of the image link (explained below) that will be supplied to you after you initially create your link.
When you return to TickerFactory with the weblink, go to your settings page. Make sure you type your PIN in that you set when you created your ticker account. Then, where it says "Your current cumulative value", there is an add button. Simply add the distance that you just did, and the cumulative value automatically changes. Then hit next.
After adding your new miles (or KMs) to your ticker, you need to post it here.
After you hit next, it will give you a bunch of codes suggesting how to display your ticker.
Use the one at the bottom where it says Direct Image URL:
It will look something like:
http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt/t/w6K1EiX/exercise.png
To display that correctly in your post, make sure you place the image (img) tags around that link. So it will look something like the following (but removing the spaces in the img tags):
[ img ] http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt/t/w6K1EiX/exercise.png [ /img ]
^^^^^^^ Don't forget to remove the spaces between the brackets ^^^^^^^^^^
Some key things to pay attention to when posting your ticker:
Use the link that ends in .png
Remember the [ img] and [ /img] tags go in between the link
Remove the spaces in the img tags before posting
YES, there is a / in the second /img tag
By the way, everyone here should consider themselves a runner no matter how fast or slow. There's no judgment, we all started somewhere. And no comparisons, except with your former self. Don't compare your Chapter 1 to somebody else’s Chapter 20.
“I often hear someone say I’m not a real runner. We are all runners, some just run faster than others. I never met a fake runner.” – Bart Yasso
“The man who moves a mountain begins by carrying away small stones.” – Confucius
"We all know that if you run, you are pretty much choosing a life of success because of it.” – Deena Kastor
“Most people run a race to see who is fastest. I run a race to see who has the most guts.” – Steve Prefontaine
“Get going … walk if you have to, but finish the damned race.” – Ron Hill
"If you run, you are a runner. It doesn’t matter how fast or how far. It doesn’t matter if today is your first day or if you’ve been running for twenty years. There is no test to pass, no license to earn, no membership card to get. You just run." - John Bingham
You may see some phrases / words that are unique to our little group when it comes to describing some of our runs. It is a mash-up of words that seem to best describe the way the run felt that day. Here are some examples. Feel free to come up with your own to add to the dictionary 😃
'sleasy' - Slow and Easy
'sneasy' - Slow Not Easy
'scrappy' - mix of Slow and Crappy
'wun' - mix of Walking and Running
'wog' - mix of Walking and Jogging
"injury shuffle" 2x your normal pace, if you are crazy enough to do it
"Crazy Laps!" repetitive short distance laps (think living room/hospital room)
Difference between running and jogging. Joggers find dead bodies. Every news article will always print: 'jogger found dead body', 'out jogging, found a dead body.' Never does it say a 'runner' found a dead body. Only joggers find dead bodies.
'boyfriend run' - 12.1 mins per mile is the perfect 'run date' speed
'girlfriend run' - you better keep up, no matter what the speed
Stay safe. Stay healthy. Stay on track. Don't look back!

I’ll aim for 160km again but as it’s December, who know how I’ll get on. I have a 24km trail run on Saturday which will either set me up for the month or kill me.

thanks for setting us up again @AlphaHowls I hope that Dec brings you more joy and peace.
I am thinking to go for 100 mile goal again this month as it worked pretty well for Nov.
6 -
Thanks for setting up @AlphaHowls !
I'm on 1414.5 miles...
So I'm gonna go for 185.5 miles to make it to a round 1600
8 -
Thanks @AlphaHowls
December is an odd month for setting targets. I will go for 65 miles running plus 58 walking.
Cheers!

18 runs @ 110km this month. Incl. a run on Christmas Eve, Boxing Day & NY Eve.
In short, December plan is ridiculous. If it goes well. Will set a scary goal for 2026.

Thanks again for setting this up for us @AlphaHowls . I'm going to stick with my goal of 80 miles of running and fast walking for the month.
I'm not going to run the T-Minus 10 miler this year. I just decided it wasn't "fun" enough to make the trip. I may run the Pioneer 5 mile race at Davy Crockett's birthplace - haven't decided for sure yet. No other races scheduled, but I'll try to stick with my HM training schedule as much as possible. I may be stuck on week two for a while. LOL

Morning.
Got in 5.5M at 10'48

December Running Goal: 40 miles
8.4 lbs.weight loss (166.8 lbs -> 158.4 lbs)
————————————————————I'm Chris; I live in San Diego, California.
I function better with some structure, so I started a race prep training block early (today). I finally have come around to understanding this new adaptive coach on my F265s, so I'm handing myself over to a 19-week half training plan with a two hour goal.
Here's to no surprises, no illnesses, no injuries, no change of plans. Ha! I'm looking forward to giving it a good try and let's see how it goes.
I bought a little hat with a rechargeable light up at the forehead, a show of my commitment to running in the dark a bunch over the next couple of months.
If you have a Garmin please connect on GC.

This month I'll aim for the same 50 mile goal as last, but this time only miles logged during actual workouts will qualify.
1 Dec … 2.0 mi
Cumulative total: 2.0 mi

Thank you @AlphaHowls!
Going to be out of town a couple weekends this month, so just going to try to run as much as time allows, and not stress over total mileage.
7 -
I did something today I haven't done since October 14. I ran. I could tell I haven't run in 1 1/2 months. It was a very slow run and my legs felt on the stiff side. I am so glad I finally got off my lazy "you know what" and got myself motivated to get out the door!
I hope to get out again tomorrow at lunch. It will depend on the snow/rain storm mix that's coming in tomorrow whether I can or not.
Dec. 1 - 3km
Goal for the month - get out the door

Hey @angf0679 That's great. One run at a time ... keep it up!

Here you go @skippygirlsmom @CMorning99 @yirara @Stingray101
for the December Running Challenge. It is the beautiful thing about this thread, like Groundhog's Day with memory like a goldfish, last month's runs are gone and we all get to start again fresh in the new month's challenge.
I hope to see you here for December.

I did manage to get 302. 86 miles for November. I have made it through my birthday and thanksgiving. I have even decorated a little for Christmas. Mom always had themes for decorating. This is my "Left Behind Christmas". She left me behind and I am decorating with what was left behind/left over.
So I will keep the 300 mile goal for December. The temperatures are more like January/February around here. It takes some discipline or sheer stupidity on my part (they are interchangeable) to get out of my really WARM, COZY bed.
1 13.35 miles, Cold!
Dig in and get it done for those dealing with ice, cold, snow and such. I am jealous if you have sunshine and high temperatures.

Great start to the month @tarun_yadavA .
You can do it @chris_in_cal .
Great goal @Scott6255 and @angf0679 .
That's a cute little Christmas tree @AlphaHowls . I think I spot a wolf on that lamp shade. You are stronger than you know/feel. Hugs for all you are going through right now.

1 Dec Walked 0.85 miles - Ran 2.25 miles - Work break
I worked 8:30-5:45 today (11 two year old children with two teachers is doable, but tiring). During my break, I was able to go for a wun. It was 43F (6C) and sunny, so not bad. I did a warm up and cool down walk. The run was a wun - walked when I felt I needed to. The avg pace was 12:12 min/mile. Avg HR was 142 with a max of 164 bpm. Splits were 12:51, 12:08, and very pleased with the last quarter mile at 9:51 min/mile.

December Goal: 140 miles
12/1: 5.02 miles
5.02/140 miles completed for December
I'm going to set my goal for December at 140 miles. I got out today and ran 5 miles. It was 38°F feels like 35° F. It wasn't too bad once I got going, but I think my nose was running faster than I was. It is supposed to be 28°F in the morning. I may just go to the Fitness center and run on the treadmill.
Thanks for setting us up @AlphaHowls. I know how tough all the first are. Hugs.

I ran 1.97M at 16'32. It is getting cold.
6 -
Morning all.
5.5M at 10'50

morning. got in 5 yesterday and the day was just chilly and dank and drizzly. yuck. Great to see everyone on here starting the month right.
@AlphaHowls I am not sure your Mom would have agreed that she left you behind. a lot of her is with you in you and you have so much to give to honor her. hugs.
7 -
Still alive but with a cough from hell. Once I finally expelled my lungs, cleaned then and put them back in I'll continue
6 -
I told myself to pack a warmer jacket in my bag, guess what I didn't do. face palm It's going to be just below freezing at lunch. The snow/rain mix isn't to start until 2pm so I should be good to try to get out. (and yes my legs feel what I did yesterday today. 😂 )

just returned to my fitness pal after a long time and pleased to find this challenge. I’ve lost my running mojo so I’m going to return to couch to 5k so to complete the required number of days for December is my challenge. I live in the uk and do parkrun every week but have been opting to walk it lately I normally run walk so I shall add that to the mix.

Hello friends! I’ll aim for 40 miles again this month.
As always, thank you for setting us up for a new month @AlphaHowls!
7 -
Great start to the month @kgirlhart .
Nice running @tarun_yadavA , @chris_in_cal , @SummerSkier ,
I hope you feel better soon @yirara !
I hope you don't get too cold on your lunch run @angf0679 .
Welcome @valeriefreestone1014 . You have found a very chatty and supportive group.

Not another Brit!!! Just kidding, though it seems 50% of this group are British, 50% Canadian, and the rest from elsewhere. :) Welcome.

1 Dec … 2.0 mi
2 Dec … 5.5 mi
Cumulative total: 7.5 mi
Knee started to tighten up in the last mile, not enough to make me stop running. But following the workout came my 90 minute commute to work, and when I tried to walk from the car to my desk, better believe my knee had tightened up considerably! Specifically it was the ligament behind my knee on the outside. Once I got to my desk I spent 5 minutes massaging it, and when I stood up again it's as if the knee never had an issue this morning at all.

Taking a break this month. Still running, just not posting. Am contemplating life's choices, especially since my body isn't what it used to be and having to adjust to that and needing to do a reset and adjust goals for 2026.

I’ve revised my plan for December after my very slow half on Sunday. I’ve concluded I am running my long slow runs way too fast and I am not having enough rest days, so I’m gonna take it easy this first week of December, since I have a 24k trail run on Saturday, and then just go by feel for the rest of the month. It’s also getting very hot and very sticky here so I’m going to have to go running first thing in the morning if I don’t want to melt.
Welcome @valeriefreestone1014 (I’m in New Zealand which is why I’m moaning about the heat rather than the cold), good to have you here.
Just take one day at a time @yirara and @WarmJellyfish and of course @AlphaHowls, be kind to yourselves.
The rest of you lot, stay warm and get out there and get it done!

thanks for the welcome I’ve not worked out how to reply individually
