well i'm not at your weight, but i am obese as well - i'm now about 218. (I just started the c25k and alternate walking/strength training /c25k). start slowly, you want to be careful about putting too much stress on your joints, and if you can do the running bit on a track/grass/soft ground then do that. I walk in a park near my house and have been doing the running bits in the playground part of the park (where they have that rubber/spongy floor). i'm sure i look like a lunatic running around in circles around the swings, but i don't care.
good luck and don't forget to breathe!0 -

I am slightly over 300 pounds and have had some foot injuries, the remnants of which are aggravated by my weight. Honestly, I don't know if I'll ever be able to run, but I do walk. I would like to do C25K (but I haven't yet).
Would you believe it never occurred to me to walk on grass instead of just down the road? lol Thanks for pointing out something I feel like I should have figured out myself, but didn't. :laugh:0 -

I've been running on and off on my weight loss journey - which started about 4 years ago with some stalling along the way .
when I started a similar program I was in the 300's. I have now been running consistently for the about a year after really committing to it. I went through the C25K route this time and it really helped - I used an app and also the Podcasts on the NHS website.
Also check out the Runners world magazine, they normally have some great beginners articles in there, with guidance on form and such. If you live in Scotland check out the Jogscotland organisation - there may be a group near you - they take you through a similar plan to the C25K.
I ran my first official 5k earlier this year - my only aim was to complete it.
I regularly run an average 6k through each week, but am training for a 10k later this month. My aim after that is just to keep running through the winter.
My advice - go slow - if you struggled with one of the weeks of the plan, don't try to push to the next week, redo that week - you will be surprised how quickly you will run for longer if you forgive yourself when you struggle. Don't expect every run to be the same - how well it goes depends on many things, how tired are you, what time of day you run, how much have you eaten today, hormone levels (it affects women, I'm assuming it will affect men also) - how stressed you are.. for just a few
Don't expect yourself to run fast, if you are out of breath and struggling, shorten your stride and go a bit slower - you are aiming to be able to hold a kind of conversation, not be struggling to get your breath between words. Check out advised form - Mine isn't great - I am working on it - but keep you head up and back straight (not bent at your waist) - this allows you stride to work best for you, and your back won't hurt..
But yes at your weight you can do it if you want to.0 -
Thanks for the advice everyone. Your words are very helpful.0

I started c25k at around 230 lbs, I experienced some tendonitis in both my knees and my feet from trying to do too much too soon and also not properly stretching before and after. But I'm at 215 8 months later and running 8 miles and doing my first half marathon next month, so it can be done! You just have to do it slowly, never run 2 days in a row!0
