Open discussion........Obesity genetics vs lifestyle problem

Okay............What do you folks think.Some people can eat without counting calories and stay thin.While others have to workout & count calories to loose/keep wt off.What will you call it - endomorphism,genes,metabolism or a simple lack of will power.Pls be impartial.

    Nobody breaks the laws of thermodynamics. The people who never have to count calories are still eating at or under their TDEE. The "obesity gene" is yet another excuse people use to not lose the weight.

    And yes...I need some popcorn as I sit back and watch.

    Hard work........ Unfortunately not all of us have the 'thin' gene and therefore have to work hard at it. However, I'm happier after a workout than what I am when I've sat on the sofa doing nothing.......

    the genetic difference you're talking about is primarily how the body partitions leftover nutrients. So, a person who has no willpower issues and/or never forms bad habits, will be mostly unaffected by the gene either way. A person who overeats regularly *will* be affected by the gene. Some of those people will tend to pack on fat faster than others at the same rate of overeating (due to genetic makeup)... but it all comes down to lifestyle. Either way your gene is flipped, you can overcome obesity. Some will just have an easier time than others.

    FWIW, the difference is not very drastic in the studies I've been able to find. Like someone else already posted, it's primarily an excuse.
