Smoothie for lunch? yay or nay?

They have opened up a new Zest Boost Smoothie bar in my home town and i LOVE them.

I have been having a 450ml breakie go go smoothie for lunch everyday (banana, strawberry, low fat yoghurt, honey & muesli and all smoothies are less than 99% fat totalling around 450cals)

I'm wondering if this will these be beneficial towards my weight loss?

On a typical day my breakfast is two hard boiled eggs, the smoothie for lunch, a protein bar as my snack and chicken and vegetables for dinner.

    all that really matters for the weight loss part of your health is the number of calories. In my experience, smoothies (and all liquid calories) don't keep me as full for as long as the equivalent number of calories in a different form. I'm sure there are plenty of nutrients there, which will affect other aspects of your health, but for weight loss - does it fill you up enough to be worth 450 calories? If you're interested in building strength and/or maintaining your metabolism while you lose fat - do you get enough protein from it?

    Less than 99% fat? I'm guessing that's a typo lol

    Some will tell you smoothies are no better than juice, but I say it's probably better than a sandwich. Iifym and all that...

    The only thing that will definitely "help your weight loss" is to eat less than you burn.

    How you do that is up to you :-)

    If if fits your calorie and macro goals, then go for it. But, will it keep you satiated everyday like a meal you have to chew? Some people do great on shakes or whatever for meals for a little while, then get hungry, and then start to chew lots of food because they were just hungry and ignored it for the sake of weight loss. But, if you can stay satisfied on it, then sure, its fine as long as you are getting adequate protein in your other meals.

    Same. I stay full for longer eating solid food.
    Also that smoothie sound like it's hella high in sugar.
    However if you like them, they keep you full and they fit within your calories why the heck not

    Each to their own but I don't know how you aren't ravenous at the end of the day.

    But to answer your question, if they fit within your calorie goal then they certainly won't be harmful to your weight loss.

    For 450 calories........... I personally would rather eat something wholesome

    Ie.... Why don't you have turkey slices on brown seeded bread/ A nice chicken/fish salad/Sushi/Wraps etc?

    Seems a lot of calories just for a smoothie

    Why not have something like a sandwich or wrap, AND an apple/ piece of fruit!

    I would not be full on that - I have a small sandwich using Vogel bread - it looks so tiny, but its really filling. This and some fruit will fill you for longer from the same calories.
  • If you're just counting calories then it's fine but if you're counting macros then I can only imagine how high in carbs it is. Also, low fat isn't as great as it's made out to be. Fat is a necessary nutrient.
