How would you log a home-made soup or salad?

Hello lads,

So say, a relative cooks up a home-made soup, or slices some tomato, cucumber, olives, mozzarella, and a dressing on top. Do you log this by food seperate, or is there some estimate I could make (like, usually, a cup of tomato soup has around x calories, or most salads don't go above x calories)?

If it's something you'll have regularly with the same ingredients, it would be worth you using the recipe function.

You add the ingredients and it works out your calories and macros per portion.

Edit: Guesstimating is difficult as certain things like dressings or oils can make a substantial difference to a calorie / macro count.

    Depends on teh ingredients.

For salads - lettuce, cucumber, peppers, raw mushrooms, onions - pretty low in cals, can safely be ignored (or a quick add 25)

Starchy veg - sweetcorn, potato, beetroot etc will be a bit more calorific.

Other ingredients such as cheese or croutons will be pretty calorific, so I'd have a go at estimating the quantity of those.

Dressings - if oil based, really high, definitely want to record them.

Soups - oil, cream, croutons, butter will be the big hitters.
