Anytime Fitness gyms

I am going to need to join a gym soon as winter is coming around and I want to continue my exercising. Plus I need to add more than just walking to my weekly routines. There are several Anytime Fitness locations near by, so I was wondering if anyone could comment on their experience with them.
Thanks,
JB

I was a member for a year. they make you sign a 1 yr contract and I was told there were no freezes allowed-later told that I could have... Shady management. I don't really think it is worth the $ unless you have a discount from your medical insurance-I got $20 off if I went 12 x/month. They charged $39.95 before the discount and group fitness classes are extra.0

I quit going to the local YMCA and joined Anytime Fitness and I LOVE it. There's one about 4 miles from where I work and one 5 miles from home. They are super duper clean and the staff is friendly. I like that I can access it all the time and I feel safe there even at night (safe neighborhoods) the equipment is good quality and updated. They are open to customer feedback (they post customer suggestions and respond to them at the location closest to where I live but I suppose they are all different.)
I've been a satisfied member for nearly 6 years. I recommend. But they are individually owned so do your homework. I think you can get a free one week pass to try it out so do that first.
Oh, and the price was right, too! I am locked in @ $34/month for life!0 -
They are a franchise, not a corporate chain, so each one is different. I love the one down the street from my home, however the one down the street from my work kind of sucks because they each decide how to spend their money, so equipment and facilities vary. One might have a killer freeweight section, but only one 1 stairmaster and 2 treadmills. Another may have an awesome aerobics room full of swiss balls and steps, but only 2 benches and a basic set of barbels.
The main pros are
1. After your first 30 days, you can use any AF location anywhere in the country (theoretically)
2. 24hr access
3. In most cases, members have a say in how their yearly maintenance/improvement fee is spent
Cons are
1. Classes and equipment vary from one location to the next
2. Can only use extras like free classes, tanning, etc at your home gym
3. Long contracts and slightly higher price.
Personally, while it sounds like I'm dissing AF, I love my membership and willingly pay more for it than other gym options in my area. That is because I love the flexibility of the hours and locations, and I am really really happy with my "home" location. The one near work is far from ideal, but I only use it during shows, so it's maybe 10 times a year. And being able to use it means not missing workouts on those nights.0 -
I am a member of an Anytime in Colorado. They do have a month to month plan, with a 30 day notice requirement. I've found it to be a better gym than 24 Hour. It's smaller, less crowded, the people are nicer... *shrug*
The freeweight section in my gym could be bigger, but since it takes up 50% of the gym I can't complain too much.
All in all, I've been pleased.0 -
I joined one. The gym by me is sufficient for my needs.
Problems I have are:
I was told it was $20.00 a month and my contract states this but I am being charged $28.00. I am fighting with the billing company about it. The owner of the gym will not do anything to help. He contracts with the billing company so its really between you and them to settle it.
It's not very clean.
Most of the tvs on the cardio stations don't work or have a bad picture.
It doesn't offer classes. I don't care about classes so it's no big deal.
If you just need equipment to work out on and the ability to do it anytime, then this is your place. Just remember, you get what you pay for.0 -
Thanks everyone! I will check them out...0
