So what do we mean by Cardio?

In lots of the discussions here exercise seems to end up categorised as either Cardio, or Lifting. We all then make assumptions about what's meant by that. From the perspective of Cardio, what does that tend to mean?

Personally I run, ride either road or mountain bike and I row on a WaterRower

Really don't enjoy gyms, so I'd rather get out in the open

Your activities would count as "cardio".

"Cardio" is usually an activity where your heart rate is elevated, but the resistance isn't so heavy that you can only do it for a minute or so before needing a break - which would be strength training.
The terms are pretty vague. And some activities have both cardio & strength elements.

    Fine, be like that. :-)

Do you do strength training outdoors? That's where i'd prefer to do it, but it's just more convenient in a gym.

I know mine do, I'm curious about others. There seem to be a lot of people on here whose cardio consists of exercise DVDs. It just puts a very different complexion on a response to a thread, particularly where cardio seems to be a chore.

Bodyweight work sometimes when I'm out, and obviously the rowing machine gives a pretty thorough upper body beasting.

For me cardio is running, walking, dancing (like zumba, brazilian butt lift, etc, biking, jump rope, hiking. Anything that keeps your heart rate up.
