does [exact] calorie intake matter with Insanity DVDs?

calorie intake will seriously be the death of me...i'm always so confused by it
here's a little bit about me-- 19 years old, 143 pounds, 5'4. I'd love to lose about 15-20 pounds..lose a lot of body fat/get lean + tone up a little bit.
I'm about to be on my 4th week of insanity, and so far i've lost 3 pounds. havent seen a big difference (at all) in pictures i took a few days ago, but i'm staying patient. My first 3 weeks of insanity i started eating 1700-1750 calories, but recently decreased it to 1500 calories cuz i'm afraid and paranoid that amount is too high. The nutrition guide says i should eat 1850 per day, but i'm afraid that's too much.
basically here's my question- if i eat clean (which i have been consistently) and consume between 1500-1800 calories per day, will i still lose weight?? i'm curious if it can be in a general number range & still be effective, or do i have to eat the same exact amount each day??
