How do you determine portion size?

Hello everyone,
When I eat out, i find it very challenging to determine the portion size of items. Is there any good rule of thumb for estimating the number of ounces of a vegetable portion, the number of ounces of meat, etc.?
Thanks in advance

When I worked at a diner the portion size of most sides (mashed pots, veggies, cottage cheese, etc...) was 4 oz. French fries was 3 oz.
The meat portions varied. Hope this helps0 -
