Preparing for a 10k

Options
Hello! I just started running in the beginning of August. I ran two 5k races about two weeks ago and had pretty decent times for a beginner (31:16 and 29:42). I am considering running a 10k on October 19th. I have been running 3-4 miles 3 days per week and 5 miles one day, in order to build up to 6 miles for the 10k. I weight train one day per week and cross-train one day as well. Friday is my rest day. Does anyone have any training advice? Thanks!

It sounds like you've already got a sound training plan in place. You'll do great if you do decide to do the 10k.

The general rule is not to try anything new on race day. You don't want to surprise your body with anything. Wear clothes you know won't chafe, eat food you know doesn't upset your stomach. Before races, i tend to eat a banana with peanut butter and a cup of black coffee 1-2 hours before (5, 10k), or that plus wheat toast for a marathon (though I will also take gels for a marathon). Just do what you are used to.
