Where to find a scale?

Sorry for asking so many questions lately... But I do not have access to a scale. My school's gym unfortunately does not have one. I went to Target hoping that they'd have a model on display that I could use, but they didn't...and they were all packaged up so I couldn't get one out! With a student budget, I can't exactly afford a good enough quality scale that will give me accurate readings.

Does anyone know of any stores that definitely have models out on display? Or somewhere that has a scale for public use? ( I don't mind paying a few quarters or whatever, I only plan to weigh in once a month. ) Thanks y'all!

P.S. I'm in Nashville if that matters at all

Walmart's website has half a dozen scales for under $10 and nearly four dozen models under $20.

be warned that the cheapo digital ones really do suck, at least in my experience. If you have a small budget for a scale, go analog.

i don't own a scale not because of the price but because i use the way my clothes fit to tell if ive lost any weight or not. im no longer concerned with numbers just with how i feel and look but like others have said go to walmart, amazon has very cheap stuff or ebay or maybe a family member

Other commenters are right, though: a cheap scale is so inaccurate it's just a waste of money.

Save up and spend a decent amount of money on one.

also, weigh as often or as seldom as you like. I personally weigh myself every single day. To each his own, but IMO having the data is better than not having it.

DONT get an analog scale, they are terribly inaccurate. Depending on how you stand on the scale, it can flex and give false readings/ect.

It's accurate up to .2 lb increments, and has a large digital display that even a blind person could read, and it's nice and wide/sturdy up to 450 lbs. Best investment I've made as of late, my old piece of junk analog scale said I was 30 lbs heavier.

I think 25$ for a good scale is reasonable, always read the product reviews.

Ebay, Amazon, or do you have `freecycle site` where you live?

Maybe you can club together with friends...maybe you can use one at a local gym?

Usually Walmart is really cheap but if not there you can even get one from Amazon.com or Ebay

The digital ones are not necessarily more accurate. They work by using pressure plates, which *can* be accurate, but when cheaply implemented they can also be wildly inaccurate. They also work by sampling every few milliseconds for a set number of seconds, then giving you the average. They are affected by shifting weight just like analog scales, but most won't display the highs and lows of that sample size. They will only give you the average, which is a good estimate, but inherently inaccurate. Lastly, to say they are "accurate" within .2 lbs is a misnomer. They are "precise" to that level of detail, but that does not at all affect accuracy. If the calibration is off (and I have 4 digital scales that prove this point), the accuracy will be off as well. 99% of digital scales do not allow you to calibrate them. At least most analog ones do.

Never saw any in a store you could step on.

Did you try the medical clinic of your school? Almost all universities have at least a clinic if not a small few bed hospital facility. If the gym doesn't have one, the medical facility would be the next place to check.

A city rec center would have one, one admission a month wouldn't be too expensive. That would be your next best option.

And if you have a regular doctor, ask the office if you can just come in to self weigh once a month, if that is all you want to do.

And please don't go the Walmart route. Amazon is your friend with free return on most anything you buy.

I think stores like GNC sometimes have a scale you can use - costs a few quarters. I got my scale at Target for around $20-30. Do you have a birthday coming up or I guess you can ask for one for Christmas.
