Really fed up! Cycling home from work yesterday and I had, well it wasn't so much a fall off my bike as flying over the handlebars. This was on a road, about the steepest in my city (not very!) but of course meant I slid nicely down the road. I have managed to trash myself quite well- I have fractured my elbow, and my scaphoid (most common fracture to outstretched hand apparently), thought I might have broken my cheekbone, but just badly bruised (big lump on face and I have a fat lip), various other bruises and grazes but thankfully it was quite chilly so I had fleece and gloves on or would have been worse!
Just been reading about scaphoid and it sounds like a bit of a long job - any experiences?
I'm really fed up as this is my second injury in a year (sprained shoulder before - same arm!) and love my exercise. What can I do gymwise? Don't want to be gaining now when I've done so well.
My helmet was pretty messed up and they did tell me in ED that if I hadn't had a helmet on it would have been a VERY different story - so take note all and always wear a helmet!

I hope you feel better soon. For cardio not using your arm, maybe zumba?0

Can anyone suggest any supplements/ dietary things to help healing for a picky vege?0

Glad it wasn't more serious and you were wearing your helmet.0

I fractured my scaphoid many years ago when I was 15, had to have a cast with the thumb kept out rigid, it was a right pita considering I was a flautist and had my music exams coming up lol... Healing time was about 8 weeks or so, but it took about 4 to be diagnosed prior to that as it was initially missed on the xrays. I don't get any gyp from it now, which surprises me to be honest as every other joint related injury I have had has led to chronic problems
Hope you feel better soon, well done for wearing the helmet!0 -
Well I have splint on now and sling for the elbow, so hopefully it wont be as bad as having proper treatment straight off. Have some heavy duty painkillers from last time I hurt my shoulder (good job as they didn't send me off with any) so using these. Struggling as all other cuts and grazes making things a bit tricky but I'll stick with it!0

Feel fed up and very sorry for myself. Know I'm being very self indulgent but feel very pre-menstrual, and guilty about all the things I can't do - and we have huge family changes coming up soon so lots of stuff needs doing in house. Sorry for moaning - will try and feel more positive tomorrow.0
