Sugar Limits

How do you all stay under your app limits for sugar per day when for me one piece of fruit accounts for one third of my daily limit on non cardio days?

Am I best to ignore natural sugar as opposed to processed sugars and just disregard my limit?

  • So weird that you just posted this... Look at my question I jusyt posted...

    Sugar levels...

My query is regarding the sugar count on here...

I regualrly find myself eating well over the level of sugars in my "Goal", even if I am under/ on target for calories. I don't drink fizzy drinks very often, and rarely much on chocs or sweets, but somehow my sugars are always in the RED.

This morning for example I have had an apple, a packet of raisins and a black coffee and am already well over my daily sugar allowance. Obviously the fruit is the issue I'm guessing.

I want to know if this matters really, and if it will have any baring on my weightloss goals.

Also be interested in any responses...

I ignore mine. Tracking calories and macros is sufficient, so there is no reason to track sugar apart from carbs

I stay way under my carb limits daily and weekly so thanks for the info, I will try to not take too much notice of the extra sugar, thank you :)

Seems unlikely you would go over the limit with one apple and a packet of raisins, unless it was a pound of raisins LOL.

Look at the Sugar column on your daily report to see where it came from.

Yes thanks, I did look at that. No- not a lb of raisins (!), just a 25g packet, which apparently contains 17 sugars (not sure on the unit, sorry). The apple contains 18 and the coffee 4. My Daily Goal is 25. So I'm behind before I've started.

See the faq link about the goal and resetting it to suit your needs and beliefs.

You could drop the sugar from coffee. The apple and raisin numbers are correct on checking - raisins are 70% sugar !! Dried fruit is a deceptive thing, you ate 120 grams of grapes there.

My daily goal on here is 24 grams. I find that I meet that goal VERY easily. I have cut down my fruit consumption because of this. I do not drink any sugary drinks and I award myself with a little sugar in coffee at times. I don't mind going over my sugar consumption by a little because I'm usually under my calories and carbs for the day. I eat less sweet fruits now and use more lemons and limes in my tea to make up for it.
  • Going over the limit with fruit only really becomes a problem if you start finding yourself craving sugar. Ask yourself if you could have a day without fruit and filled up with more vegetables? That can help you determine if you're slightly addicted to the fructose or not. I blog about sugar at www.happysugarhabits.com if you'd like more info.
