I think I should win an award for being the slowest loser ever! I am the polar opposite of the Biggest Loser! So, I am here to encourage other slow losers!

When I started (April, 2005) I was 183 and today I am 126.
So, was it hard? Yes! :grumble:
Did it take perseverance and fortitude? Yes! :noway:
Did I sometimes want to quit? Yes!:blushing:
Was there a magic pill or formula? No!:explode:

Here is my thinking though. I was on a pattern of gaining about 8-10 pounds per year (I was the victim of a crime and was run over by a van...it took awhile to recover and I gained a lot of weight in the process). So if I had continued the same behaviors I would be well over 225 pounds right now!

When I began I couldn't exercise but I could increase my movement and activity and I could control what went in my mouth. First I gave up sugar, then I limited refined carbs. (please note, I didn't say all carbs, just refined processed carbs). Then I started cardio exercises. Then I incorporated strength training.

I was NOT able to to all of those things in one shot. It took time to learn all of these new behaviors. 5 years!!! :blushing:

A wise woman on MFP said once that the passage of time will happen no matter what you do. The question you need to ask yourself is where do you want to be?

I am still here because I would like to lose another 6-11 pounds and guess what! You may not read my final success story until next August! It will probably take me that long to lose this last bit, maybe longer!

Some people would not think it was worth it. All that hard work, and tracking, and typing, and posting, and sweating! But the truth is that I am worth it! I can respect my body enough to embrace it; even in its slowness.

Fellow slow losers, be encouraged. It does happen!!! It just doesn't always happen quickly like some of our other friends here on MFP.

I know that it is hard to rejoice with the person who has lost 2# in one week (or harder yet, the person who has lost 7# since their last weigh in and then you look and realize that their last weigh in was only 10 days ago!) It is hard to know that it will take you a 6 months of hard work to lose those 7#, but hang in there and rejoice with them anyway! :drinker: :flowerforyou:

There were times in this journey where I didn't see any loss for 2 or three months but then I would lose 2 pounds in that 4th month.:smokin: What if I had quit after three months of not losing? HUH? Where would I be? I wouldn't be at 126! Wearing size 4! With a husband who cannot believe my "hot" body:wink: (gotta love that guy!) and kids who love their new active mother!

Rejoice!

This can be your moment!!

Decide and Commit!:smokin:

In 2015, where do you want to be???

You could call it "slowest loser" or "most sensible loser" --- cuz most fast losers are doing it by using extreme methods and gain it back quickly..... slower losers are more likely to retain the weight loss and lifestyle changes that went along with it

    GREAT JOB!!! :smokin:

You did it in a way that was comfortable to you. The important thing is that you never let go of your dream and you're so close now! I think it was the smart thing for you and some people could take a lesson here. Everyone wants it now but losing too quickly leads people to go off their "diet" and gain the weight back. This is a lifestyle to you now and you can maintain much better than the fastest losers.

"Slowest Loser" and "Size 7," you are both very inspiring. Thank you for sharing your stories and successes.
SL--I hope they caught the bad person. But, even if they didn't, I have the feeling that you have forgiven the person. Hugs.
S7--I am one size away from my goal: Size 10. I am 58 (in 10 days), and my skin can only shrink so far at this age! ;)

You-all have very good lives. :drinker: (water)

I seem to be on the lowest loser track (and always have been when I attempt to change my eating habits). I see weight falling off of other people. I set-up weekly goals for myself and get so excited when I meet them. Thank you for your words of encouragement. You are definitely a inspiration!!

    DeeDeeLHF you rock!

What a great story, thanks for sharing that with us all!

Love the line about "The passage of time happens no matter what" that is so true.

A few very hard times in my life I was encouraged to just keep keeping on, with the thought that no matter what, that sun will rise the next day, a new day!

    Cheers!

Thank you for the post. My loss is slowing way down and I was starting to get discouraged and telling myself that maybe this is the way my body wants to be and just deal with it. But because of you I will keep on doing what i am doing and I am sure things will keep on happening. Thanks again. I needed this.

Thanks so much for your post. :drinker: :drinker: :drinker: With all of the "quick fix" diets and other strange fads it is nice to see others taking their time and doing it right. I spent 8 weeks training hard and watching my diet very closely to lose absolutely no weight. I was so tempted to just say "The heck with it" and even a few of my loving family members suggested that I didn't look "too bad" so don't worry about it. Well I plugged along and cried, sweated and learned alot about my body over the last 10 weeks (roughly), and very slowly the weight has decided to come off. I count EVERY pound as a success and revel in all that I've learned along the way. I am really working to change my life and not just what I eat today. I applaud you for sharing and can say that stories like yours really help me to keep it moving. Thanks again for sharing!!!

LOL! What does this post tell us about metabolism and aging? Well, except for Naoko and Sheyna, we are all (close to) or over 40!

    It gets tougher, doesn't it!?!!

Small update...Yesterday, as I was getting ready for church, I pulled out a dress that was given to me two years ago. I have been saving this dress to fit into all of this time because I liked it so much. I had last tried it on in March and it was still a bit tight in the saddle bag area. Anyway, so I pull it out, put it on and for the first time it slid past my hips with ease. I was excited and ran to the mirror. My daughter stared at me and asked if I was honestly going to wear that thing. It was now too big!!! I was sad and happy at the same time!!
