dr scared me gotta do this

I feel like a walking cliché. High blood pressure, partly calcified aorta, cardiologist said that I need to go on a 900 cal a day diet. Ouch. Taking care of elderly parents, too much work, lots of pressure and negativity. I am 55 and I have watched my mom eat her life away. I don't want to go down same road. Due to inflammatory issues Dr. said I would not be able to exercise enough to lose
the weight I need to. Today I was hungry but still ate over 2100 calories. This is going to be hard. Need to learn how to eat that few of calories and still get needed nutrients. Any suggestions?

    Did s/he offer suggestions or put you in contact with a nutritionist?? I can't even believe s/he sent you out in the world with those problems and no knowledge base on your own, that's crap.

    In short I would seek out the services of a nutritionist familiar with that kind of diet & with your condition/s; I am not placed to offer suggestions.

    I agree with the poster above. Ask around for a nutritionist or dietitian and get their advice on what sort of foods you should be looking at.

    Yes, please contact a dietitian. 900 calories is very, very low and you'll almost certainly have nutrient deficiencies without proper guidance. Also, the dietitian may help you plan a diet that takes you as a whole in account, is still livable and effective. 900 calories without close guidance sounds like a disaster waiting to happen.

    Dr. put you on a VLCD with no plan on how to do it? Have him hook you up with a Registered Dietitian. Till then eating more whole foods will allow you more amount of food to eat.

    Protein and fiber are going to be your friend to stay satisfied on that... barely. Enough to adhere.

    Yeah, if you're doctor is saying you need 900 calories a day that needs to be a medically supervised plan--not something you do by yourself. And you'll need regular check ins and blood work to make sure you're not damaging yourself.

    This site can help you track your calories and your exercise, with great supportive people in this community, but it cannot replace a doctor's care or perscribed eating plan.

    You should eatt a minimum 1200 calories a day. My wife and I are doing Chris Powell Carb Cycling and it is working for us. On High Card day she eats 1500 calories and low card day 1200. It has fired up our metabolism and we are burning fat. We eat no less than 5 meals a day so that we are never hungry. At times it almost seems like too much food after a week or so.     I like to fill up on oatmeal. its cheap, filling and good for you. Its a good snack for inbetween hunger.Also fruits and vegies. Good luck and don't give up. I don't loose fast at all but, I keep busy like you. Sometimes being too busy is not good. Try ta

    I second that. In matters of life and death, (which this could be, given enough time), I always recommend a second opinion unless it's a critical E/R-type situation where there isn't time.

    It's just a good policy.

    If your eating 2100 and are still hungry, you should reassess the nutrient content of your food selections.

    Get a second opinion or see a qualified specialist.
    900 cals per day is very little you you will have other problems over time if not done correctly.
