Introduction

Hello,

I've been a member of this site for awhile (mostly using the app on my HTC phone), first time using the community boards.

I joined the military later in life than most people would. Graduated college with my BBA in 2010, then signed my life away in late 2011. I don't regret it at all--only that I wished I would have done the two in reverse! The student loans are a killer!

Anyway, before joining the Army I weighed in at a max of 220-ish. I'm 5' 5", male, 27 years old, with a broad build. Before shipping off to basic training I got myself down to about 201lbs, and after basic I was at 190lbs. During AIT I was most active of all. Three days a week I was running five to six miles at 4600 ft elevation. I had my weight down to around 174lbs and felt that I was at a plateau.

Since AIT I've been stationed in Hawaii and have shot up to 184lbs, mostly because I work long hours and my section more often than not flakes out on physical training because of work demands. I try to do as much as I can in my spare time, but still have to find time for self training/education (no time while on duty like other soldiers might be able to), and most importantly, family. My wife's pregnant and I have a 19-month old, all who keep me very busy at home.

I just recently started Insanity, but that's in the evenings. In the mornings, when I'm not in the office early, I still have to PT with my section. I'm not worried about overdoing it too much because they're not as physically active as I'd like to be, but they've got crazy good metabolism unlike myself. I really have to work at it just to keep at a decent weight. They can run two miles twice a week and be in great shape (not fair!).

Anyway, I don't know what else I could add in here. Key points are that I am active, but I want to be more active; it's hard for me to maintain weight, not to mention losing it; and I've got very little time on my hands.

If there's anybody out there in the military community that has similar issues, maybe we can bounce off each other for motivation. Or anybody for that matter.

Take care!

Although I am "retired" now I joined the Air Force "late" when I was 24. Stayed 20 years, got out, finished my BSM in 2010 and will be paying for student loans for the next 15 years. Got a few guys on my friends list just rying to stay healthy and work out. Happy to have you join the group.
