lifting w/out a deficit? or wait til I get closer to goal?

Since I have 15 pounds til my goal weight, would it be a good time to stop cutting my calories and start lifting without a deficit? I planned on doing this when I got closer to my goal. Would it hurt to do it now? or just wait longer?

You can lift with calorie deficit......dont have to wait till closer to goal.....you may not gain any new muscles at calorie deficit....fat lose will happen....

You won't lose anymore weight if you don't eat at a deficit. If you are fine with that go ahead. I would like to point out that you should have been lifting the whole time you have been losing as it helps ensure that a larger % of your loss will be from fat, instead of a higher proportion of lean muscle.

I've been lifting & eating at a deficit since starting my weight loss.
I know I'm not really "gaining" muscle but doing my best to preserve whatever I can as I drop weight and hopefully lose mostly fat.

You should start lifting now - even if you remain at a deficit lifting will prevent you from losing muscle mass while you drop that last 15. Alternatively, if you are happy with your current size but would like focus on recomposition, then eat at or just below TDEE. You may be able to lose weight and gain muscle simultaneously but this is a very slow process and you may end up spinning your wheels.

Regardless of body recomposition, gain, or loss, lifting will produce neural adaptation and you will get stronger. (Your central nervous system will learn how to make your muscles do more and more of what they are actually capable of doing.)
