bike trailers for 2 tots

Hi everyone,
I was wondering about bike trailers that you attach to your bike and pull 2 kids. I have a 2 year old and a 1 year old. How safe are they? Do the kids have to wear helmets? How easy is it to steer the bike with the trailer attached, does it pull in anyway? Just looking for some experiences before I decide to get one.

Are you looking for cycling on the road (with traffic) or off road such as trails or parks?
I have seen people riding on the roads around here with them and that doesn't look safe in my opinion. They have a little flag on the top but are so low they would be so hard to see by a driver.
For trails and parks where there is no traffic I think they would be great! They have little seat belts in them and I would at least put them in cycling helmets as if you were to fall there is a chance the kids could tip out (although they are much closer to the ground than you, but better to be safe).
And am sure it will be an excellent work out for you!0 -
I think any two seater bike trailer will work pretty well. We have a hand me down one someone gave us. But, I wouldn't use it on a road with traffic and helmets are a MUST. We've never had an accident, but why take the risk?
I can't speak to how difficult it is to pull as my husband does that. But, it does create a LOT of drag when it's windy out. Just think of it as extra calories burned!0 -
Thanks! I was worried about the road, we have a lot of traffic around here and I wasn't sure it would be safe. But we do have some parks that I could easily bring my bike and kids to and take nice long rides. I used to love cycling but I haven't been able to do it in a couple years because of pregnancy/ young kids. I want to get back into it and its mostly for next year since winter is closing ing, but I would love to spend time with my kids and riding, taking them out to see things. They are still too young to ride bikes themselves, or at least with any kind of speed for fitness. But I don't like the seat attached car seat looking things plus I wouldn't be able to take both kids out.0
