New Heart Rate Monitor

I had a HRM that I bought a few years ago. I liked it, but I didn't like that I couldn't use it in the pool. So I bought a new one this week and have used it twice, once in my group strength class and again this morning in my spin class. Both times, I felt it registered low.

In my spin class, I usually keep my heart rate around 125-130. But with the new monitor, I couldn't get it over 120 no matter how hard I pushed myself. So I'm a little disappointed. My previous HRM said a 45 spin class burned about 600 calories, but the new one said I only burned 350.

I thought the FT7 was a good HRM. So should I assume it isn't reading me right at the higher heart rates? Or do I assume my old one was reading me too high?

Commenting because I have the same question, except with an FT4. I have a friend who has a different model than my FT4, and I will get half the calories burned hers says while we are doing the same thing. We are the same age and about 6-7 lbs difference in weight.
