I know when I first did this it said in order to maintain my current weight i'd need to keep consuming 3000 calories or something. I've only been counting calories for 4 days now. I did well, until yesterday when I went over by about 600 calories... MFP told me i need 1600 calories a day to loose weight- but since i'm pregnant I adjusted it to 1900 calories- until my appt next week when I can ask my OB how many I should be consuming each day. So yesterday when I logged all my food- and yesterday was a school day- i always do HORRIBLE on those days- so I had mcdonalds for breakfeast- and baked cod and fries at school for lunch and then meatloaf for dinner at night- I pretty much ate how I would have eaten before- but that didnt even come out to 300 calories- Now granted on some school days like thursday my long day- there were days i had fast food breakfeast- skip lunch- then around 4pm get taco bell and then on my way home at 11pm stop and get more taco bell! I guess for some reason I'm feeling discouraged! Even though I haven't even failed! What are some things I can do to help? Today i'm finding i'm in the mindset of "well i went over yesterday, so im just gonna snack here and snack there and have a cookie and not record it.." Do I just need more self-disciplin? Even when I do count ALL the food i really eat and I go over a little- it still doesnt seem to bother me because i'm like, "well only i know anyways"... ???? But am I still better to only go over the 300 calories or so of my 'target' each day? Am I really eating less calories than I was before or can MFP be waaaay off when it says you used to average X calories a day before you started tracking just based on my weight/height/age etc?

reducing your calories ANY from what you were eating before will help you to shed pounds.

I think ive read that 3500 calories equals a pound. SO in other words,

Decrease your calorie intake every day by 500 , after seven days of that, you have decreased your weekly intake of calories by 3500 (500 cals perday x seven days = 3500 calories total, or one pound.)

Being pregnant WILL affect things, so make SURE you ask on your next appointment. Healthy mommy means healthy baby, but becoming more healthy definitely requires self discipline.

Try trading in at least one of your fast food meals a day with something you make at home and just have it ready to eat, like a BP& J sandwhich or a 100 calorie pack or two just to get you through until you can get home and make something that is baked instead of fried like at most fast food places.

I plan my lunches well in advance since i know i will not be at home to make it. Having it right there keeps me from being tempted to go out and eat an unknown amount of calories.

Oh, and use your newly implemented self discipline to make sure you record every single morsel that goes into your body, even if its just a tic tac!!

Thanks! I know I eat sooooooooo much better when I plan meals ahead! Thats why i do so horrible at school- because i never plan breakfast and end up racing out the door in the morning and then im 'stuck' starving or quick getting fast food before or after class. I'm already on the right track though- last night i bought a bunch of grapes, blueberries and raspberries and divided them up into little bags and popped them in the freezer- so like today i had the munchies for a snack and i just took out a bag- and had a nice snack of fresh 'frozen' fruit to snack on!

Do you have a desk where you can keep things in or a fridge? Here at work it's hard for me because all the other hens are always going somewhere for lunch and ask if I want something. Before I never kept things here so I would think well I don't have anything for lunch so sure bring me back something. I learned that if I planned on what I was going to have for lunch everyday and keeping things here that wouldn't spoil and then prepacking the other items I needed for lunch I was less likely to want them to bring me anything and could stick to my calorie intake for the day.

I try to bring food from home as much as possible.

And, yes, record everything. Otherwise why bother recording at all? I record everything, even the 900 calories I went over one day! :blushing:

It inspires me to be better. After all, I want to be able to wear shorts this summer without buying a bigger size than last year. Sigh.
