Doughnuts and Beer Diet!

I've been using MFP for 7 weeks and have lost 7 pounds. Yesterday, my wife bought some Krispy Kreme doughnuts from a neighborhood kid that was selling for his sports team. If you've never had a warm Krispy Kreme doughnut, let me tell you that these things are a sinful pleasure! :) I vowed to just have 1 doughnut since I'm on a plan. After having one in the morning, a little while later I couldn't stand it anymore, I had another. Throughout the day I ended up eating 5 total. These things are around 190 calories each, so I thought I had totally busted my plan for the day. I spent a little more than my normal time exercising in the evening and ate a typical MFP dinner, and added two beers with dinner. What the heck I thought - "I've already busted through my plan.".

When I entered the days food into MFP, I was barely over the daily net calories goal. Pleasantly surprised. Today, I hit the my lowest weight in the entire 7 week program - The secret? Doughnuts and Beer! :)

My takeaways are that this kind of confirms what a lot of people on here say - total calories are what's most important. It OK to have some of those "unhealthy" foods in moderation. Now, I know shouldn't keep eating 5 doughnuts a day. They seem to make me hungrier overall in between and also, I could have had much more nutritious foods in their place. But, nice to know that it's OK to occasionally have a day like this!

I ate an entire green and blacks 85% dark chocolate bar this afternoon, after having a 5 dollar footlong for lunch. kinda messed up my protein/fat macro ratio for the day but since I won't get another chance to eat again today i'll only be over by a few calories (and I've been upping my calories anyways this week for a trail half marathon this weekend). There's a bigger picture than 1 treat, 1 meal, heck even 1 week of an overall diet/lifestyle, especially if you are aware of it.

Something that helps me is tracking my calories and macro targets on a WEEKLY basis. I have successfully maintained my weight (and about 10% body fat levels) all year despite having multiple days with 7000+ plus calories. I regularly eat an entire large pepperoni pizza in one meal and am close to my calorie, fat, protein, carb and fiber goals every week.

Doughnuts and beer can help you achieve your fitness goals as well!

Video of me eating 15 doughnuts (which fit into my WEEKLY calorie and macro targets) and running 5 miles:

Some days I go over...I know I go over...I log it and it is way over...the next day I get up feeling and looking skinnier than usual.

Some days it's like "refeeding" (that's what a lot of people around here call it)...I've been at or under my goal for a while and then I allow myself to indulge...a while ago it was a Brazilian Churro place...I ate lots of high quality meat...protein? (No matter how I phrase it it sounds bad) and I drank lots of wine, etc. The next morning, I got up and felt skinnier than ever (that's the morning I took my profile picture).

Some days you just allow yourself to eat the things you want to eat...within reason...(I'm not saying go eat an entire cake). Don't eat that way all the time...but allow yourself some leeway once in a while.
