Eating after workouts!

I have been on MFP since the beginning of the year and lost 40 lbs doing moderate exercise with a 1600 calorie allowance. Anyways, since meeting my initial weight goal I stepped up my exercise routine over the past couple months and have added resistance and circuit training into my routine. I now burn between 500-800 calories in my daily exercise and when I get home from the gym I am starving! I try to have a well balanced snack right afterwards and water, but the hunger does not give up until I've consumed 700-1000 calories! I eat, drink water, then wait..... still hungry so repeat! Is this normal? I'm now at a 2200-2400 calorie diet. I am trying to lose body fat not necessarily lose more weight. I have gained about 5 lbs since upping my calories and workouts. Just wanted to know if this is normal and if there is a way to control this starving feeling. Thanks
