Red Wine Drinkers

A lot of red wines don't taste nice to me.
But I just found a 2009 Syrah from a local vineyard (J. Fillippi) that is so damn delicious. I really like it and it is surprisingly affordable, only about $9/bottle!
Oh, let's turn this into red wine favs, suggestions and picks thread....
Cause I like red wine and have been a regular fan waaaay before "Cougar" came to town.
I was/am drinking a glass (calories alotted today) of a Rhone wine, 2010, Chatueau de Campuget. It's alright, not bad.0 -
I drink wine because I like to drink wine. I drink good wine when i can afford it, because I like it more and know the difference. I drink cheaper wine because sometimes I don't care.
This....
I also grew up with wine as a food group and still think of it that way (part of the food budget), of course I watch it due to calories.
Most wine drinkers start out with sweeter wines and gradually develop their palate for more complicated, dryer wines. That's not really new "news".
Hey does anyone remember "Cold Duck", I don't know if they make it anymore, but that was a treat in my wonder years.0 -
Red wine - great to cap off a good day
Meyers and oj - great for the exceptional and piss poor ones0 -
The first red wine I've ever had tasted like I was drinking rubbing alcohol. So I stayed clear of it for 6 years when I was convinced to try Riunite. I love it! And it's the only wine I buy now...and it's not expensive.0

I don't like red wine even though I want to. I've tried over and over, but I cannot acquire a taste for it. My husband loves it, and i wish I could drink it with him, but I just can't0

I'm a wine lush and anyone that knows me will tell you that I don't watch TV and am a pop culture idiot.
So yes, I truly love my wine.0 -
I love all wine, and do not discriminate based on color.0

I cannot drink a glass of red wine...

a bottle of red is about right....0 -
I think your scientific evidence is FOS.
When sipped, the taste buds on the human tongue responds to things that are sweet. If you recall the taste tests between Coke and Pepsi, Pepsi, which is sweeter, would always win because they had the people sip the samples, not drink.
Wine is sipped, therefore the taste buds on a normal human tongue would not find it enjoyable. Most people will admit that wine is an acquired taste and one they didn't enjoy at first. So that would say that most people drink wine to be part of the 'in" crowd, not because the enjoy it. (excluding the sweet wines, which are looked down on)
Maybe you have a point.....just maybe! I never enjoyed red wine but I turned 40 and we had a very cold winter in Cape Town where I started drinking a glass every night! Initially I was indifferent to it! I then acquired the taste and now I absolutely love my red wine!0 -
I forgot I posted this thread.
It's funny that the majority say "I love red wine!!" but they don't admit that they didn't like it the first time they tried it.
I'd admit it if it were true, but it's not! It would be true of my first taste of beer.0 -

Hang on a mo! Just reaching to pour a second glass, just hold on ................0 -

I don't really have favourite grape, but I love full bodied beefy dark and spicy wines, and I prefer French. I can't drink Spanish - it gives me violent headaches! I laughed at a colleague of mine who said the same of French wine till I discovered the pattern in me. Fortunately I don't ofen come into contact with Spanish wine, so it doesn't prevent me imbibing. New world wines taste a bit blackcurranty to me, they're okay. Italian wine is lovely, but I'll always head for the French which tastes like wine.
Interestingly I read a book about wine, and the flavour and qualities of wine depend so much on the terrain and climate where they're grown that the same grape grown in different places will produce wine that tastes more different that different grapes grown closer together. I've never tested this to see, but I do find that wines from different parts of the world do seem to share some characteristics.0
