Keto diet/ atkins diet

Hello everyone

I am considering starting a keto or atkins based diet and was wondering what your general thoughts are on these low carb/high fat lifestyles? Reason being I have played around with my macros for some time, with very little success. I always kept my fat to 20-30% and increased/decreased carbs and protein.. Considering the poor results I am tempted to try very high fat and very low carb now.

I did it for a while, lost about 10-15 lb, then I broke down and ate all those pounds back plus some. I don't cut anything out completely on my current diet, but I continue to eat a lot of protein in an attempt to maintain my muscle mass. It's a fine diet if you can stick with it, but be sure to continue counting your calories. Cutting out carbs does no good if you're eating too much!

It works like a charm if you stick to it. you have to keep your carb count low enough to be in ketosis for it to work. that is because it changes the way your body burns calories. not in ketosis your body burns glucose/carbs in ketosis your body uses ketones /fatty acids as fuel. So eating high fat is burned efficently in ketosis, in a regular diet it goes straight to your hips.

so you have to be strict. You really have to count your carbs.

that said, it is easy to stick to your calorie allotment because you don't get as hungry. your sugar levels don't spike. you stop craving the carbs (at least I did)

at first you lose a lot on the ketosis diet, that's because you are losing the glucose stores in your liver and muscles. for ever gram of glucose it's like 4 grams of water (going off memory those numbers could be well off) anyway it equals out to 5-7 pounds of water loss for the average person. That is not a real loss. when you eat carbs again that glucose store and water store goes right back on you. you have to figure that in.

    I've been on it two months now and I don't weigh but I've lost a lot I think. I went from a tight 14 sometimes 16, to a 12 and rarely 10

I have been very satisfied with LCHF way of eating. It has certainly helped me stick to a plan because I'm not thinking about food every waking minute.

I started a medically supervised low carb program in May and its the easiest way to lose weight I've ever done. I enjoy my meals, have tons more energy and am losing every week. My plan has me doing 1000 calories, less than 50 net carbs a day, and at least 100 grams of protein. That leaves about 400 calories for fat. I'm never hungry and I have 3 meals and 2 snacks a day.

I have been following a low carb diet and it has worked. I kind of do a carb cycling thing; I do low carb most days but I have a "cheat" day twice a week where I go higher. I have been really bad about staying low carb this past month and I have maintained my current weight for a month by doing this.
