net carbs

I have a question about what net carbs actually mean. I try to keep my carb intake at <100g/day. Weight loss just seems to work better for me that way, so I pay attention to my carb intake. On many packaged bars, such at Atkins bars or Quest bars, they tout "only 3 net carbs" and such, which I understand what they are saying is the carbs that are left after deducting fiber and sugar alcohols (correct me if I'm wrong). However, when I log what I eat, it only counts the original carb count. For example, today I had a Quest bar, which says only 3 net carbs on the label, but there are 23g of carbs in my diary. How do I accurately track my carbs? Today I consumed 97g carbs and 37g dietary fiber. Is it truly 97g or do I subtract the fiber? Any advice?

I changed the Sugar column to Fiber (because the sugar I get is not worth tracking as it's in my carb totals) so I could easily calculate my net carbs.
If you had 97g total carbs & 37g fiber, your net s/b 60g carbs.

Yes it does help. Thank you very much. I like the idea of replacing fiber with sugar. Pretty much all of my sugar comes from fruit most days, so I don't really pay much attention to sugar. Thank you again!0
