Pill & weight Gain :-(

Hoping for some help

I started on MFP this year and lost 14lbs - this was following gallbladder removal so I was really pleased.

Anyhow then was diagnosed with a hormonal imbalance following the birth of my third baby (the imbalance turned me totally mental by the way ) so my specialist advised I should start taking a hormonal contraceptive to even things out - great - first pill was too strong and I was hungry all the time however it did clear up the rages & terrible skin I had developed.

So they have now put me on Loestrin which is better but I am soooooo hungry all the time - literally straight after eating, in the middle of the night the whole lot ! - the only thing I crave is bread & stodgy food which means I have now regained the 14lbs I lost this year.

I just feel like crying - I have been told that its probably due to the oestrogen however the pill I am now has one of the lowest contents - I am just really hormonally sensitive and I cant risk coming off it as I was vile with the hormonal imbalance to the point that I thought my other half might leave :-(

Sorry for the long & rambling post any help would be appreciated :-(

I can relate to this somewhat. I have to take oral steroids for my lungs every once in a while alone with inhaled steroids. They make me hungry.

I keep vegetables around to eat. I buy broccoli, cauliflower, peppers, celery and munch away. I don't use dip. I also eat more protein like egg whites. Sometimes I have a protein shake.

It's important to drink water before I eat. It kind of helps me actually. I hope these things help you. Good Luck!
  • I was on LoEstrin for almost 2 yrs, the 1 first year and a half was fine, but before the end of it the cravings were getting crazy. The only way I made it through was setting my mind on the fact that I only need X calories a day and it is was hormones saying I was hungry not that I really was and just saying no. If you're on Loestrin 24FE its been discontinued and your doctor will have to switch you to something else next cycle.

Not a doctor, obviously, but would a progesterone-only pill do the trick? Or is the estrogen essential?
