regarding lunges.. am I cheating if I steady myself against the wall while walking lunges up and down my hallway? I know in some exercises maintaining your balance is half the challenge, but I'm just so uncoordinated!

I'm no expert, but I'll answer from my perspective.
I think that if you have proper form with the use of your walls then that is better than not using proper form. I think your cerebellum will eventually get what it's supposed to do and you will be able to eventually let go of the wall.
I think proper form is king above all else when it comes to exercise.0 -
The balance will come with increased strength and practice. Definitely steady yourself at first if you need to. My two cents.0
