Hi there everyone
I'm a mum of 2 in Leeds in the UK. My youngest is 4 months old and I am now bigger than ever! We went to a BBQ at a friend's house yesterday and she took some photos and when I saw a photo of myself I just felt so embarrassed :noway: That was the tipping point for me so I decided that today is a new start for me.
I think MyFitnessPal is a great way of tracking what you're eating/drinking and I'm hoping it'll really motivate me to keep going and I'll be able to see the results. I've made an appointment with the practice nurse at my GPs surgery to get help and support too - I know what I need to do but just need someone to kick my flabby *kitten*
I've got a big task ahead of me, I need to lose about 8 stone to get myself into the 'normal' BMI range, but I'm hopinh with the right help I can get there.
Anyone else on here from the UK had any experience of NHS weight loss support? What kind of stuff might be available to help me? I'm on maternity leave and DP only works part time so we're skint and I can't afford to join gym/slimming club so hoping there might be free/subsidised stuff available to me....

Welcome Rosie, I'm from the UK too, Londn to be precise. Joining MFP is a great step towards a new healthier, fitter you. Just logging your food each day will really put into perspective what you're consuming.:embarassed: It was a real eye opener for me.
I've not used the NHS for weight loss support but I'm sure the practice nurse will be able to help you. In regards to not being able to join a gym, no need to. Walking is the best exercise. Start with however much you can manage each day then increase it by two minutes each day unitil you're walking for an hour. Great thing is you can take baby with you.
You could also get yourself a good workout dvd - Tae Bo is an excellent calorie burner:glasses: . You can get them real cheap on play.com.
Feel free to add me as a friend and I'll be here to support you.
Good luck:flowerforyou:0 -
Welcome Rosey, I'm in the UK (Scotland).
You've made a great step joining MFP - it is a really helpful tool, and you'll be amazed by the revelations in your diary. Just take your time, one step at a time.
I know how you feel about seeing photos - I can't bear to look at myself in the mirror! But this is the way forward...
Feel free to add me as a friend - sometimes the support can be good.0 -
Thanks ladies, lovely to have such friendly and swift responses!
@sunshine - yep I do like walking and I'm lucky enough to live on the edge of a gorgeous park. When I had my daughter I used to enjoy doing laps of the park pushing the pushchair. Have tried to do it a few times since I've had my son but I can't get enough of a pace on with a 3yo in tow  will have to leave her with daddy on the playground while I go and do some laps!
@bamboophoen - haha mirrors that show anything below boob height have been banned in our house! Gotta get my head out of the sand though so a full length mirror might be what's needed at some point - I'll be peeking through my fingers I think though! :ohwell:

Well done for making the right decision. I am in Coventry UK & after a very slow start, in fact I gained weight at first ,but losing slowly now & happy to support you. No idea if any NHS help available seen my doc twice to no avail but you may be a little luckier than I have been.0
