confused!

Ok so I'm slightly confused and hoping someone can help me. For more then one reason joining and going to a gym is not an option for me right now so I've been doing stuff at home. I have dvds as well as a stationary bike and I do one or the other for 1/2 an hour everyday. I still have a lot to loose (76 pounds) but I'm worried that doing strictly cardio will make me have flab once the weight is gone. Is that true?

I think incorporating some resistance training will be beneficial for many reasons (building lean muscle, strengthening your joints, ligaments, increasing flexibility, and yes it can help minimize loose skin)

You can probably google "strength training home" and find some articles with some starter plans.

Here are a couple that I found that might be good to start.

Maybe some other folks will have some suggestions. If you can find some light dumbbells (5 lbs., 8 lbs., 10lbs. and 12lbs.), then that would help give you more diversity in exercises.

Hope this is of some help! Good luck!

Like above states, strength training is beneficial. I don't do gyms, but tons of different style push ups, chair dips and I have some dumb bells and resistant bands at home.

I've definitely noticed a change not only in my arms but my core as well!

You're right .... just cardio isn't a good idea. Cardio & resistance training give you 2 different health benefits.

Cardio is for building endurance & working your heart muscle

Resistance is for maintaining muscle mass (while dieting) & building strength (although adding muscle mass while in a deficit is not very likely).

If you don't have equipment ... you can use weight bearing exercises .... push ups, squats, planks, etc.

I like Kelly Coffey Meyers 30 Minutes to Fitness Body Training ... no equipment required:
