Just like many other journeys in our lives my wife and I are changing our lifestyles together and there have been a few hardships along the way, especially for my wife and am hoping that you might be able to help

Our current daily calorie targets are only about 200 apart, probably because I started as obese whereas she is only overweight so I thought it would be easy but was in for a shock

My wife has a sweet tooth and has 2 sugars in her coffee where I have none and I was surprised at how much difference that makes to calories.

But the real problem is that while I am more than happy to eat plain salads and meats or with just a dash of hot pepper sauce my wife loves her sauces, dressings and gravy's

I could really do with some idea for low calorie versions of these if you have any

Thanks for you help

Firstly, maybe slowly cutting back on the sugar might make a difference, eventually she might adjust happily to just one in a cup.

Unless you're using excessive amounts of sauce and dressing, they usually aren't too bad. Balsamic vinegar, and lemon juice are both yummy in salads, or a little hot sauce stirred through greek yoghurt works nicely. Salsa also makes for a good sauce/dressing. Premade dressings are fine though, just opt for vinegar based ones over creamy and don't drown your plate in it.

Cooking your meat in different ways will mean you might not 'need' a sauce, marinating meat in garlic or other herbs and coating with spices adds plenty of flavour. Or cooking meals that incorporate healthy sauce to begin with, curries, stir fries, stews, or I sometimes serve Bolognese over veggies rather than pasta. That said, any gravy or sauce used in moderation/serving size is usually not too bad.
