is 2 three mile runs a day too much??

due to work and school runs i only get to run after a 12 hour night shift (3 miles) i then go back home, shower and take the children to school...i sleep untill 2.30 and get up shower and then pick the children gie them their evening meal and then i go to work again....i am thinking of getting up half an hour early and running another 3 miles before picking the children up from school???do you think i would be over doing things and not getting enough rest.

thx for your replies in advance

I don't see anything wrong with it. Just listen to your body and if it hurts to run, don't

I know people who do two runs a day without any issues, but if you are going to not get enough rest to recover then it is probably not a great idea.

In short, yes. I used to do the same working 12-hour swing shifts and I know I could not add another session. If you really wanted to add some more I would just add some miles to the run you currently do. You can always try it though and just listen to your body, you will definitely know if you are not getting enough sleep.
  • Whether or not you're resting enough depends on you - you didn't state what time you went to sleep. I would quite happily run 10k a day but it depends how many days a week this is for. Don't forget to get some strength training in there too. :)

Two 3 miles runs in one day is not too much for most people. But if sleep is an issue, I'd suggest playing it by ear. If you feel up to the run, then run. If you feel you need more sleep on some days, then listen to your body on those days and sleep. Proper rest is just as important as exercise. Find a balance that suits your life.

If you're just talking about mileage, six miles a day is fine. I know a few people who run at least 10 miles a day, when they can, but in regards to resting, I agree with everyone else. Try it and see if you're able to get enough rest and still feel good.

i do 2 3mile walks a day. not exactly the same but similar. 1 at 430AM and 1 before bed. strangely enough, they regulate my moods and make me feel better. more....happy. when i don't get them in, i'm cranky.

I do a 30 min run before work and then either do 30 min weights session or another 30 min run in my lunch break.

Listen to your body, if you arent 100% then go slower, walk/jog instead of run and build it up.

    I wouldn't add a second run. I'd add a kettlebell routine.

This is not from personal experience: I have done some reading on marathon training and things like that and there are people who do 2 a days in their training if they are trying ot hit certain milages to stick to their trainig plan but don't have a window of time to do it all at onece; say its your 10 mile day but you just dont have an hour and a half to run all in one block. You need to make sure you are incorperating rest days in there like you would with any long distance running. Like other people said, listen to your body and if you are seeing signs you are not recovering properly then rethink it.

  • I only have enough time to do a 3 miler before taking the children to school. I would be home in bed for 8.30 and would have to get up at 1.45 pm fo fit another 3 miler in before collecting the children from school. Some days I would be able to get to bed for 7.30 when I dont have to do the school run.i just dont want to over do things but feel I have more to give than one 3 mile run...it s only time that is restricting me in the mornings.

Try it for a while and see how you feel. I get by just fine on an average of 6 hours of sleep a day, but everyone is different. If that doesn't work, you could always try to incorporate some other exercise other than only running...like add some strength training instead.
