For the life of me I cannot figure this out. OK, so my calories are set at 1200 a day. I burn about 400-600 calories in my daily workouts. Is MFP telling me I need to eat between 1600-1800 calories a day to lose or do I just go with the 1200 and whatever I burn is a deficit? I am not a stupid person but holy moly, trying to figure out how many calories I need is driving me nuts. Can anyone explain this in layman's terms? Thanks so much!!

Eat your exercise calories. Or possibly half of them if you feel that they have been overestimated.
Your NET is Calories - Exercise.
So if you eat 1600 and burn 400, then your net is 1200 and you've reached your daily goal. Your deficit is already built in.0
