Hello,
My mum is showing early signs of a breakdown. This is not the first time, its happened about 5 times in the last 10 years or so.
When this has happened in the past I've tended to pile on weight.
Has anyone got any advice on how to deal with stress wile on a diet? I really don't want my hard work to go to waste.
Thanks
Jody.

Hello,
well my stress is nothing compared with yours. Having deadline for dissertation on Monday, i've been stressed and depressed for a while.
Sometimes a walk helps, but for me, i need to fight it ( through kickbox, circuit, ...) but today i didnt find time for exercise so my cravings won ( bought salmon slices and ate all 6).0 -
My mom had a bad accident in July and did not make it, needless to say this was a very stressful time. What I did during that time period was just make the best choices I could while I was unable to track properly due to time/internet constraints and a lot of restaurant and other not-prepared-by-me food.
For me this meant laying off of soda during that time, passing on anything fried or that in the past has upset my stomach, and focusing on eating as many fresh vegetables and decent protein sources as I could. I also focused on trying to get enough sleep and squeezing in a little exercise/outdoor time if I could (walking their dog, going to the hospital courtyard, etc.).
There were many many demands being placed on me during that time and the way I saw it I HAD to take care of myself so that I could do what needed to be done for others. When I framed it this way, what I needed to do for me was a lot easier to actually do. Eating too much junk food takes the edge off for a moment, but it doesn't change the underlying issue that needs to be dealt with and leaves you with the original problem and new ones once the sugar buzz wears off. There is no way to eat enough to permanently patch an emotional hole.0 -
In my opinion...working out is the absolute best stress reliever. I prefer the elliptical. Sweat it out. Good for more things than just stress relief & all of your hard work won't go to waste!0
