Im looking to tone up and slim down. I have big and strong leg muscles I need to tone up and cut the fat off around them. will protein shakes after a workout help me trim down?

High protein diets are good for weight loss because they make you feel full longer and help retain lean muscle mass so that you lose fat rather than fat and muscle. As long as you track your protein shakes and continue to eat at a calorie deficit, you will lose weight and not "bulk up". It's actually incredibly hard to build muscle.

the reason i use a protein shake is to fill my macros/calories. if you're getting enough protein from your food, you don't really need them. they are good for after a workout as the protein in whey is absorbed faster than say, the protein in a steak.

you obviously won't lose weight if you're adding it on top of your diet (giving you a calorie surplus).

No, a calorie deficit makes you lose weight.

    No

An adequate protein intake is good for you but drinking a shake with calories doesn't make your weight drop

Don't really understand what you mean - what do you mean by "tone up"? Muscles can get bigger (unlikely at a calorie deficit) or smaller (if not used). Do you mean leaner (i.e. lower body fat?).

    No

Protein shakes are just a way to supplement your protein intake - they don’t have magical properties unfortunately.

That's a whole lot of nothing said above ^^^. Disregard that^^^^^

Protein shakes don't do different things for women than they do for men. It's just a different way of consuming protein. Drinking a protein shake won't magically turn you bulky. That's takes years of conditioning and sometimes that's not even enough.

Eat in a caloric deficit and make sure you target your protein and fat requirements. A protein shake is not a necessity but if yiu have trouble meeting protein numbers then it can be very convenient. Get all your calories and macros in before you end your day and you're fine.

^This. Protein shakes aren't magical, and there is no magical time to consume them... Supplement companies market them to be magical. If you are in a caloric deficit while incorporating a protein shake, you will lose weight. If you are in a caloric surplus while incorporating a protein shake, you will gain weight. If you can hit your protein targets without a shake, then you don't need them.
