Good treadmill?

Can anyone recommend a decent, moderately priced treadmill? I do not need it to have pre-programmed workouts or anything too fancy. Being motorized and having an incline feature is a must though. I usually walk outside but there will come a time in the near future where I will have to avoid the general public for a good three-six months and that keeps me from my usual walking places. It doesn't need to be the cheapest ( I don't want it to break in three days) but I can't spend too much either...

I have owned Pro-form treadmills in the past and haven't had any issues with them for an entry level treadmill.... I have a friend that has a Nordic Track treadmill (Sear's sells both) and I have been on it a few times and really like it... Now I am a gym rat so commercial grade Precor's is what I am on most days but the two I mentioned in my opinion are a couple good choices... best of Luck

In my opinion, anything that works and will last is awesome! People buy some rally expensive ones and then they're never used! You can get used ones that are practically new off Craigslist for super cheap! That way, if you don't like it, you can sell it too and not loose out on anything. Lol.

I had a ProForm 590T. It's around $600. Very basic, functioned really well for several years. The unit was rather loud, but I could drown out the noise with earbuds.

Perhaps you can find something on Craigslist

I got sick of the treadmill (finally) and starting using "Walk At Home" DVDs .... these are low impact, no choreography aerobics .....you march in place awhile, do kicks for awhile, do side steps for awhile. I like these because the moves are less repititious .....but still not like learning a routine either. Arm movements (and light weights) can bump up the impact if needed. Your library would have these, or Target, Wal-Mart, etc.

Highly recommend a motor of at least 2.5hp, 3.0hp is better.

I bought a Sole Fitness F80 last year and I LOVE IT! I bought a 2011 year model brand new direct from mfg for ~$1,300. I just checked the website and the 'step-down' model (F63) is $999. No sales tax and free curbside shipping. The freight company will schedule a delivery time. If you have a strong helper, you can open the box and carry it inside piece-by-piece. I paid a $99 upcharge for them to deliver inside to the room of my choice upstairs. There's was also another upcharge option for assembly too (extra $100-150) but I put it together by myself.
I shopped for treadmills for a couple of months because my ancient $400 Walmart was on its last legs. I was going to buy something with all the bells and whistles (downloadable workouts, wireless Internet, etc.) but realized that I wasn't going to use that crap or want to pay monthly fees, etc. I focused on reliability reviews and decided that Sole Fitness was the one. Best warranty for mid-range foldable treadmills, huge belts, powerful motors, etc. I've full-tilt run on this thing and it felt as sturdy as walking.
Bonus: Sears sells them in-store so you can try it for free! Was weird that the mfg undercuts the prices of their authorized retailer, but oh well. I gave the Sears dept. manager a chance to price match and he refused.

I have the cheapest proform that sears sells. It does the job. It is loud though. I fried the motor in 18 months, but I was running 5 days a week, 20-25 miles a week and I was just barely within the weight limit of the machine. I was also running for 2 hours at a clip and the TM shut itself off after 99 minutes. I'm assuming it wanted to rest. I did not. So in fairness, I have a cheap proform treadmill that does the job. I fried it fairly quickly because I really was pushing (or beyond) the limits of what the machine was designed to do.
  • Thanks everyone :) I will do some research on the ProForm and maybe check out Craigslist. I appreciate the feedback!

Your best best is to get a pro consumer grade treadmill used on craigslist. I got a Trimline Nautilus T370 HR for under $400 a few years ago and it runs like a champ. The motor has a 30yr warranty so im proably good for a long time.

I too have been happy with ProForm treadmills. I've owned 2 with no problems or complaints.
