Goal weight???

It was hard for me to pick one because i've been overweight my whole life. My goal weight has changed so much throughout my journey. But I think i'm sticking with it now. I'm 5'5 and have picked 138. I'm a medium frame and its in the middle for BMI. Sounds about right to me. With that said, as long as my BMI is "normal" (2 lbs away!) and I feel happy with myself then i'm fine.
Awesome, and congrats on your weight loss so far!! I peeked at your pics and you look amazing!

I'm 5'7" 193 ATM. I would love to get to the higher number of my BMI, which is 159. And assess from there. The lowest would be around 140.0

I decided on 115 pounds because my big sister weighs around that much. She don't exercise much really and she's kind of skinny fat. I joke and call her chicken legs and she calls me muscle man lol. The smallest part of my waist is 30.5" and the largest part of my butt is 43. I can only imagine losing at the most 6 inches from my waist and 10 inches from my butt. And wow, nobody ever told me that your boobs shrink!! I used to be a DD now I'm like a C. Maybe I'll be flat-chested when I reach my goal lol I don't care  (yes i do  )
OMG girl... I was DD and have broke down and finally bought a damn D bra, and NOT looking forward to going down too much more, lol. Heck yeah I care, its one of the few physical assets I have goin for me lol.
Love that you two call each other those names, lol. And you have a defined waist compared to your hips, so you will be lovin the curves right!? I, on the other hand, an boxy, lol, my hips and waist are about the same, boo, lol.
Good luck on getting to your goals and thanks for replying!0 -
I mean sure, in the back of my mind I guess I sort of had a "dream weight" but nothing set in stone. I just told myself I'd keep going until I was comfortable seeing as how I half thought I would fail anyway. When I first started I weighed 240+lbs so even getting out of the 200s seemed nigh on impossible, letting alone reaching or setting a UGW.
After a I'd broken out of the 200s I reevaluated and set a genuine UGW. Two weeks ago I reached the weight I once thought completely impossible. When I punched in the number on another weight tacking app and they sent me a congratulatory email saying I'd reached my goal I just sat there and cried for about 10 minutes straight.
Initially I thought to use BMI and height/weight to determine where I wanted to be but looking at what those BMI calculators said I should be at my height and I just...no. I tossed that number right out the window. I'm a black girl, I've got a butt, thicker, firmer thighs, hips, etc. I'd look sickly weighing 108. Now that I've reached and in fact lost 4lbs beyond what was my UGW I've set a new one meaning I want to drop between 8 and 18lbs. It depends.
I'm in my early 20s and honestly, I'd been the fat kid just about all my life so saying I wanted to get back to my old high school weight or something was out of the question. I just didn't want to be fat anymore. Unfortunately my boobs have gone from a round, pornstar-ish 40DD to 34B but I'm not bothered....much. Ok yeah, so I may be slightly upset about it...dammit I've gotten tears on my keyboard now!0 -
I'm 5'2" and my UGW is around 120lbs. I picked this number because its right in the middle of the healthy BMI range for my height/age. I'm going to reassess as I get closer because I'm not sure I've ever been that light in adult life. I've never been a weigher. In my early/mid 20s I never bothered with a scales - I went by my clothes. I am currently a size 12 (UK) and I have been a size 8 in the past, so hopefully I can get back down to that:)
When I started this time I was 157. So in total I have about 37lbs to lose. People look at me and say there is no way I'm carrying an extra 37lbs but I can see where it is (I just dress well to hide it )
But I'm not going to freak out if I don't get to 120lbs - as long as my clothes fit nice and I like what I see in the mirror that will be enough for me.0 -
I want to be a uk size 8 again and I was that when I was 119lbs so I am going for that. Its on the lower middle end of my bmi as I can be 107-135 but I would look weird if I was 107!0

Hi there -
I decided what my goal weight should be by looking at the BMI (body Mass Index) healthy weight range for my height, and aiming right in the middle of that. Whilst the BMI has its critics, there is also a significant body of research to suggest that this is the best way to determine your most healthy weight.
Of course, everyone is individual, and you have to do what's right for you.
I hope that helps.

I definitely take BMI with a large pinch of salt and this is mostly because of boobs - e.g. a woman at 130lb with an E cup compared the the same with an A cup I guess would be like 6 pounds difference? That said, it gives a good idea.
Body fat percentage is another great indicator, even within a healthy bmi range your body can be 25%-30% fat - that figure bothers me more.
For me, my ultimate goal weight falls into the midrange of the 'healthy' range with roughly 20% body fat but the numbers are much less important than the look and feel of my body.
Very good point! My family are well-endowed in the boobage department, so something to consider. Thanks for the point of view!
I was aiming for the "highest healthy" range for my height and then see how I feel at that point, which would be my heaviest in college, but that was pre-kiddo plus I'll be 40 soon, so I'm sure I will carry my weight different than when I was in dance team in college, lol.0 -

I think that will be a huge thing for me, your last sentence! I never really weighed myself much either...honestly later when I started putting on the weight, I avoided the scale at all costs, lol. even when at the doctor office, didn't want to hear my weight.0 -

Girl....you are makin me tear up!
While I do admit going from a 42DD slowly going down, I'm afraid of what "the girls" will look like because I'm going to be 40 and I had a kid, so they aren't the perky, full "pornstarish" (lol) 42DDs like my sister who hasn't had a kid and is younger than me, lol, they were a bit on the sag side, but still full enough, ya know? My fiance swears to me he won't care, but honestly it is still in the back of my mind of what that will look like!
I was 226.4 when I started, and I had actually weighed less than that back when I had my son 12 yrs ago, so that was a bit of crap news. I set a goal that I would lose 40 lbs by my 40th birthday (which is end of October). I won't makethat goal, but I'm only 7 lbs away, so I'm not too darn upset about it either. I've done it healthy and slow and I'm friggin proud of myself so far.
When I first pushed under 200 lbs, I was so excited I literally stepped on the scale about 10 times that day to see if it was a fluke, and took picture after picture to see if it was for real! True story! I was so excited I posted that **** on FB (not the exact weight, but that I reached my first major goal for ME) because I hadn't weighed that little in about 8-ish yrs. Now when I reach my 40 lbs lost, it will have been 10 yrs since I've been that weight (186.4). My next goal after that will be to get to 150. I've decided that from there I will just see how I feel because honestly, I haven't been under 140 since my very early 20s and active on dance team in college. And back then my dance team instructor used to tell me I need to lose some weight. PSSSSHHH, I WISH I was as FAT as I thought I was back then!
Girl, own it, you've reached goals, you dropped the weight, and you will keep going till you reach whatever goal fits you, right?? You can do it!!0
