My doctor has told me not to worry about it.
  • Buuut, since I do consume added sugars, I keep track of it to make sure just how much of it was added.

I used to go over my sugar goal because of ice cream.

I made the sugar goal 150 grams, and now I don't go over it as often.

    Easy right?

    Um.

    Yes, it is.

A subset, of carbs. Not directly. You know what i meant anyway.

    Protein, Carbs, Fat

well yes sugar from fruit is good but over doing it often is still not that good.
To add fruits to your daily macros is fine! just try to eat more veggies.... But still have some fruits.

The best sugar you can have's from fruits.... it's processed very well but....it's still sugar. Too much won't help you lose and will be stored as fat at some point. (talking at the extreme here).

"Carbohydrate" is a category of macronutrients. Sugar, a type of carb, is itself a macronutrient. Albumin is a macronutrient. Linoleic is a macronutrient. Glucose is a macronutrient.

Sugar is not a *category* of macronutrient, but it is absolutely a macronutrient.

Touche. I'll rephrase with not a macronutrient worth tracking if that'll make you love me again ;)

While I agree that fruit is a good source of sugar because of all the other stuff fruit brings to the table along with the sugar. Fructose is arguably not a better sugar.

OP track your Protein , Carbs, and Fats, and stay within your caloric intake and you will be just fine... I turned off my sugar tracker at 560 lbs. and never tracked a gram through 312 lbs. of weight loss. Best of Luck

Here's an additional thread that might help in relation to whether or not sugar is a problem. While it's a problem for lots of people, when it's an issue, it's a terribly important issue. When it's NOT an issue, it seems odd and doesn't appear to warrant all the fuss.

The thread below may help you to decide whether this is something to be concerned about or not.

So should I stop tracking my sugar intake?

In my opinion I don't see the point in tracking it... If you are eating within your caloric intake and hitting your macro's (Proteins, Carbs, and Fats) then I do not think it is necessary to track sugar..... Best of Luck....

    Ok, thank you
  • Today is my first day here and I was just thinking about how this sugar thing seems impossible. My breakfast banana contained seven sugar and the red delicious apple I ate with my lunch had twenty-three!!! Combined with the half a baked potato and oven roasted brussels sprouts I ate for lunch, I am officially over my sugar count for the day without having had a morsel of processed sugar. (Or for that matter, without having had dinner or any snacks!)

In the past, when trying to eat healthy, I've always tried to have one fruit at breakfast, and then both a fruit and vegetable with lunch and dinner. How does anyone keep from going over on the sugar count when eating any fruit at all?

I ignore that macro. It does not exist on my list. I was always stressing about it, once I took that one off not only did I relax about it totally but I found I lost easier.

    Forget the sugar.

I don't worry about sugar from fruit at all. It's not white refined sugar. Don't worry about being over, it's good for you.

I stopped tracking sugar and sodium and track potassium and fiber instead. They are more relevant to my nutritional needs at the moment.
  • The sugar in fruit has a low GI (glycemic index) so absolutely don't worry if you are going over because of it! I don't :--)
