What do you think of Lee Ann Ellison continuing in her crossfit routine Lifting like a Champ while 33 weeks pregnant?
Is it dangerous? Ladies would you do it? Ladies have you done any extreme exercise routines while pregnant?
I think its Awesome! Congrats to her!

It's not like she decided to start Crossfitting in her 7th month. As long as she and her doctor are on board, who cares?
ETA: I think it's pretty kicka$$0 -
Something like this was already posted about her. If she were carrying a screaming toddler on her hip and a basket of laundry on her shoulders walking up flights of stairs, no one would say a dang thing to her. "I'm pregnant, I must now sit on my butt eating bon bons."0

There is someone at my box who is pregnant and is still doing crossfit she just listening to what the Doc tells her and has cut her weight in half0

I just like the fact that Alan Keyes is in this thread0 -

basically this. ^ i'm sure she was an athlete before...and as long as her doctor gives the green light, who are we to judge? happy, healthy mom, and happy, healthy baby to be!0 -
That brings up another question, Do they still make bon bons?0
-
I don't understand what she is doing out of the kitchen.
Or why she has shoes on.0 -

Agreed!! I think this is the key. Its not like she is 35 weeks into her pregnancy and wakes up and says oh!, Ive gained some weight I need to train for a marathon.0 -

<~~ makes bon bons but my name isn't "they"0 -
I think it's wonderful as long as her doctor has giving her the "okay." Why not.
The only concern I can see is possible placental abruption and shunting of blood flow from the placenta, but if her physician is aware, and she knows the risk and is trying to minimize damage then of course stay active.0 -
As long as Doc approves....I'm good with it. Otherwise, I don't know if I would want to be around when the head popped out during a deadlift.0

Just throw some chalk down to soak up the moisture0 -

To things.
1. I make bon bons.
2. She's effing hotness. Lift it up and put it down.0 -

With her belly that big, she can't get close enough to the sink or the stove to wash dishes or cook.0 -

Placental abruption can happen while you're sitting on the couch too.0 -
As long as she is not in a high risk pregnancy and has her Doctors approval good for her. THough she may need to stop the deadlifts soon or someone had better start practicing catching...... I walked miles when I was pregnant (had no car) and actually lost a ton of weight . Millions of women work in fields and do other gruleing jobs and have just fine pregnancies. Its more likely she'll have to take a couple of weeks off AFTER the baby is born to help her abdomen heal0

I don't see an issue with if it's ok with her doc and she uses COMMON SENSE. In a normal pregnancy, any doctor is going to tell you to do what you normally do physically, not start a new program.
I did see one of those crossfit fail videos where a pregnant lady dropped a loaded bar on her belly doing a clean and snatch. I think if I become pregnant in the next few years, I will probably continue to lift but avoid any exercise where my belly is in danger or being squashed.0 -
This just makes my uterus hurt....0

I'm trying to visualize how someone would drop a bar on their belly doing a clean and snatch0 -
Rock on lil mama is my vote.
Her Doc approves, she's been doing this before pregnancy( 2yrs I think she said) and too many women use baby as an excuse. Again I say: ROCK ON0 -
From the article I just read, she had been doing Crossfit for 2.5 years prior... at that point her muscles are used to it.. I did zumba all through my first... well when I wasn't playing Rip Van Winkle... and I plan on lifting through my next as well.0

I really don't think her OB would approve it if it wasn't safe. All of my providers have been extremely cautious about what they recommend as okay for pregnant women to do. I can't imagine that a bunch of people on the internet know better than this mom and her doctor, so I say good for her.0

Nothing wrong with staying in shape and doing what you're always done while preggo. Imagine how the human race would have turned out if ancient nomads had stopped walking /foraging for food when pregnant, hadn't traveled miles a day with babies strapped to their backs, or if farmer's wives had stopped tending crops because they had a bun in the oven. Once upon a time we did heavy physical labor as part of the day to day, until we physically couldn't, and now some woman lifting what is probably a fraction of her max is serious business.0

Death during and around childbirth was fairly common in the old days too. My wife "should" be dead and my son never born just for example.0 -

Death during childbirth is still common actually. It seems to me in a world where medical technology and understanding of the body is the best it's ever been, we shouldn't be becoming the laziest and most complacent we've ever been. And yet, here we are, freaking out because a pregnant chick is lifting heavy things.0 -

I just figured I'd weigh in on this one (pun intended!) & I needed the good belly laugh from some of the responses
This lady is an example for ALL pregnant women out there. I'm 33 weeks & haven't stopped my workout routine (except for the 3 weeks in the beginning when I was pretty much Rip Van Winkle - lol!) & I WAS high risk to start with due to age & history of damage from the neck down from car accidents years ago... I just modified where & when I needed to. If it hurts, I stop & do something else, just like I was doing before pregnancy. I've been working out solid - weight lifting, cardio, yoga, pilates, t'ai chi, kickboxing - for over 4 years, there was no way I was going to give it up for 9 months & use baby as an excuse - what kind of an example will I set for our Son?
My Doc is incredible happy with our progress & I'm healthier than 95% of the new Mothers they see who are YOUNGER than me. And this means it'll be easier to get back to my hardcore workouts afterwards. This lady sets one hell of an example for women who are thinking about, trying or are pregnant. There is no such thing as "can't", just some modifications & enjoy a healthier life in the long run.0 -

Thanks for the image :grumble:
I really think she's kickass to be honest :drinker:0
