Most personal trainers have no background in nutrition and they will tell you BS to be honest.
Last time a personal trainer built a meal plan for me it came up to under 1000 calories a day, I was weak and angry all the time. I upped my cals to 2000 and eat whatever I want, I have plenty of energy and I lost 40lbs.
I don't recommend listening to PT when it comes to nutrition.0 -
any other views?0

Doesn't seem like much food. I mean, come on, 2tbsp of rice? A half-cup is only 110 calories or so.0
-
I don't see this as being sustainable. Have you figured the total calories? It appears to be too low. The lack of variety would drive me up a wall.0
-
If your PT is not also a registered dietician, he should not be providing you with nutrition advice. This seems like hardly any food, and will likely lead to much hangriness.0
-
the personal trainer at my gym told me that all women lose weight when they eat 1200 calories or fewer while exercising.. Trust me.. not a good idea.. been there done that.. got the bills to prove it. Don't do it.
Figure out how much you should be eating, based of your specific body and it's needs. and eat that. Even my scale at home says I need to eat 1663-2753 calories per day.
Secondly.. duh.. that's a huge calorie deficit. of course you will lose weight initially. It's not healthy or sustainable.0 -

So much this.
That is a low calorie diet and boring to boot0 -
Ugh. It looks awful! Of course you will lose weight - you will have a huge calorie deficit. However, it's not healthy OR sustainable. Figure out the calories you need to eat to lose at a *sustainable* rate and then build your own meals around that, making sure you eat the recommended servings of dairy, protein, fruits, veggies and healthy fats/oil. Eat a variety of foods so you get good nutrition and don't get bored and that you can continue to eat for the rest of your life!0
-
I'm of the opinion that the majority of personal trainers are clueless regarding nutrition this just reinforces that. Ignore it and eat sensibly within proper calorie goals.0
-
Seems weak. Not tons of calories to compensate for your workouts. Rice cakes as a snack are not good either…nutritionally devoid of anything good and high on the glycemic scale, which means you’ll be hungry again pretty damn quickly.0
-
With all due respect, it is obvious to me that your trainer has absolutely no idea what (s)he is talking about.
The diet you were given goes against all rules of eating to sustain and imo would be a danger to your general health over time, even if you were able to sustain it through sheer will power. Don't do it. Look around , find some good information and eat more and better. This diet you were given is garbage.
It saddens me that you probably paid good money for this advise.0 -
Sounds boring and tasteless. I'm afraid you will be irritable, lightheaded, dizzy when you work out and end up going off your diet and eating everything in site. I'd sooner count calories and choose foods I know will nourish me and fill me up.0
-
sounds INCREDIBLY restrictive and not nearly enough calories.0
-
Eating only that amount of food would make me mad, not to mention, that PT and I would've had more than a few choice words upon that diet plan being presented. TBH!:bigsmile:0

Dang...going on a rough guestimate of serving sizes, I came up with all of 1,071 calories - yano, assuming the following:
Egg - 78 cals
Wheatabix, 1 - 65 cals
Rice Cake - 35 cals (twice a day)
Light Cream Cheese, 2Tbs -60 cals (twice a day)
1/2 whole chicken breast, bone & skin removed - 142 cals (twice a day)
Veggies (assumed a veggie like broccoli) 1 cup - 55 cals (twice daily)
2 Tbs. Brown rice - 26 (twice daily)
2% milk - one cup - 122 cals
Protein mix - one scoop - 170 cals
I wouldn't do it. I'd end up harming people after maybe a day.
Did your trainer tell you to eat back what you burn in exercise calories?0 -
Your trainer is, likely, not educated at all regarding nutrition and shouldn't be giving advice. That meal plan looks horrible.
Edit: I would be a complete and total miserable hag if I had to survive on this. I'd suggest not following it and maybe even finding another trainer. I wouldn't want to work with someone suggesting that I basically starve myself.0 -
thanks for all the advice, i kina though this myself about it but was thinking surley if he gave me it then it must be ok but as many of you have said seems way to low in calories esp if im working out 4 times a week doing weights classes!
Bit peeved off at min as wasnt happy with the pt session either a lot of leaving me on a machine while he went and did something but im to timid to turn round and say ' here train me properly or i want my money back'
:-(0 -

Well, stop going to him. I am a bit passive too but I think wasting your money is not going to make you happier or get you closer to your goals. How about buying the New Rules of Lifting for Women Book and taking up weight lifting. It makes it really easy to start--you can also add a few cardio sessions each week if you'd like but it would provide an excellent foundation!0 -
Sounds to me he is trying to starve you thin, that does not look lik eit would be nearly enough calories for a day plus exercise. keep going the way you are, losing it slowly is better than gaining back and having to start over.0
-
I got a lot of grief in another thread for how I lost my weight for it being too little, but I ate a lot more than this! This sounds like too many tempting flavors in waaaaaaaay too small quantity that will leave you absolutely starving. IF I were going to eat this little for any extended period of time (a light day here or there probably wouldn't be too bad) everyday I certainly would do no exercise. You're probably going to end up burning at least 500 calories and be at 500 a day left over.0
-
I would not follow that personally. That is just not enough! Especially if you're working out regularly and hard, as you would with a trainer. No thanks to that one! I'd try and get an appointment to see a real nutritionist.0
-
It sounds awful.0
-
Legally, personal trainers aren't allowed to give diets except the very boring, very generic one their certification provides (which does not sound like the one the gave you) unless they have an additional certification or license. Personally, what your pt gave you looks to be way under calories/nutrients and you're probably not going to feel so great, or be able to get all you should out of your workouts.0
-
Make him eat it for a week and see what he does then.
I would be a raving b*tch on that little food and probably shove a plate down his throat and I mean a weight plate not a kitchen plate.0 -

This!!!
I eat what I want, I work out, I've lost 44 lbs. I know for a fact Trog does the same thing. And he's lost 153 lbs.0 -

Both of these AND that sounds like a very boring diet - highly unsustainable.0 -
How many calories does MFP give you when you enter your data?0
-
Sure way to crash and burn, you need FUEL to train. You want to preserve your Lean Body Mass, and reduce Fat. Eating too little is not the way to do that.0
-
any other views?
Are you looking for people to tell you your trainer is right?
This needs to be a lifestyle change, not a diet. Something sustainable for the rest of your life. The trainer's diet seems like it's to get you to goal...but then what? What happens when you reach it? Trainers aren't thinking that far ahead.0
