Okay, so everyone on here has basically said you need to eat a minimum of 1200 calories. Well I burn nearly 1600 calories by doing my 8-10 hour day as a Housekeeper. I don't ever feel tired, or run down and I can barely eat 1200 without feeling sick. My body has gotten use to not eating so much so now when I try to eat the "needed" calories, I feel sick!!! I don't feel like I'm hurting myself by only eating 1200! I even eat less than that. So what should I do?

Most people don't remember or count binges conveniently, not saying you do but if you burn that many calories and eat that little you would be on the gain weight forum.0

Here is a calculator: http://scoobysworkshop.com/calorie-calculator/0 -
Eat more calorie dense foods... a 1/2 cup of Almonds which is next to nothing mind you is 360 calories. I glass of chocolate Milk (that is a serving of 2 measured cups) is 300 calories, 2 Tbsp. of All Natural Peanut butter is 190 calories.. if you just ate those 3 things that would be 870 calories..... Best of Luck0

As for eating the right amount of food - if you've eaten really low calories over a long period of time, it will take some time to get your body back on track. To get more calories without necessarily eating a ton more food, add calorie dense foods to your day - avocados, nuts, nut butters, eggs, cheeses, full fat dairy, use olive and coconut oils in cooking and dressings. These foods pack a good calorie punch in small portions, so you get closer to goal without having to stuff your face.
Food is fuel, and eating the proper amount of cals for your age, height, weight & activity level is important. Eat too low for too long, and you risk slowed metabolism, messed up hormone levels, lack of energy, etc.
Hope that helps!0 -
I agree with what everyone here has said. You need to eat close to 1200 calories. if you get too full, eat high calorie foods to reach your goal. I don't agree that you have to eat EXACTLY 1200 every singe day though because it depends a lot on your activity level. But if you're burning 1600 calories housecleaning...... you should be eating 1200 at the LEAST!0

i eat 1150 calories everyday.. and burn between 500-900. I never eat more, unless i'm cheating. Guess what, not starving.. no issues.. Healthy and strong. You don't need all those calories. Eat 1200-1500 and enjoy the results of your workouts.0

Where you doing that job when you were gaining the weight? If yes, chances are high that you either overestimate the calories it burns, underestimate what you eat, or do a mix of both. I would only log it, if it is a one off activity, otherwise you could sabotage yourself right from the start.
If your job is housekeeper, but you marked yourself as sedentary, you have to go back into your settings and change your activity level. For example if I set myself on 'sedentary' and log each thing I do, I 'earn' about 1500 calories a day, whereas when I change myself to 'lightly active' I get 150 extra calories added. (which is much more reasonable). By all means log all the exercise you are doing on top of you job and daily household routine, but be aware the MFP totally overestimates those calories.
The 1200 calories refer not to the minimum of calories a body needs, but to the lowest amount of calories where dieticians assume it can be expected that you get everything nutritionally that you need (protein, carbs, fat, vitamins, mineral, salt etc). It is the reason why under a doctors supervision you can have lower calorie plans without dying, but it is not as simple as popping a couple of multivitamins every day. Basically, will you suffer dramatically right away? No, as you say yourself, you are feeling well, not run down and you are eating all that you can. In the end, time will tell. Good luck :-)0 -

what the poster was trying to say was, if you are truly not reaching 1200 calories and burning that many calories a day, then you would probably be so underweight you would be on the forum looking to gain weight.0 -
If you can barely eat 1200 and burn 1600 a day (-400 per day) why are you on MFP?0

I doubt you are burning nearly 1600 extra cals. I suggest changing your activity level to active from sedentary, and just don't log your work.0
