OMG, I feel like I'm taking crazy pills. I've heard from several reliable scientific sources that raw potatoes are poisonous because they're from the nightshade family, and as a natural defense they contain a toxin called solanine that kills bugs that try to eat them. And that this toxin is toxic to humans too and can cause (at best) digestive discomfort and (at worst) neurological symptoms, similar to ingesting small amounts of roach spray.

Of course these sources may be full of shizzle and I may be misled, but I really wasn't talking out of my bunghole when I said it. I was just quoting what I read a few years ago.

Uni. AKA Sea Urchin. It feels like fluff and tastes like sea water. I think of it as a sea water flavored marshmallow that costs way too much for me to have, probably, ever again.

Nightshade foods are supposed to be bad for conditions and syndromes like Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue, Chronic Pain et al. They supposedly cause pain and associated "symptoms" to get worse and cause flares which are difficult on any level to deal with.

However, tomatoes, potatoes, onions, carrots etc are all supposedly from the nightshade group and I eat em all. I eat more vegies than meat or pasta/bread/rice/potatoes and have never noticed more "flares" or whatever. I suspect you can find anything on the "net" to support your stance on any given topic. hell, I dont care......I just know what I like and as long as it's not killing me or aggravating me in some way......Im going to enjoy it.

No, I tentatively believe you. I had no preexisting stance and am not one of these "crusader" types. I will look further into what you have told me. Thank you. I swore I heard from reliable sources never to eat undercooked or raw potatoes because of the neurotoxin. If so many people here have been eating taters raw for so many years and have not seem a drop in IQ or a rise in epilepsy, etc, then I have reason to doubt what I'd heard before.

I like burnt food too! Apparently it's to do with low iron.. which makes sense with us ladies! Either way.. cannot beat burnt cheese on toast!

Another thing I read recently (feel free to refute; I'm not taking responsibility for this): Low iron... apparently it's how we women are supposed to be and it's what gives us longer lifespans (and high-iron women die sooner and have an "older" appearance than their age peers): http://www.lewrockwell.com/2002/02/bill-sardi/blood-and-iron/

But it does make sense on some level to me... because we take "antioxidants" to prevent aging, and what oxidates better than iron? (What do you think rust is?)

Dad always said it was the "sprouted" eye thingy that you shouldn't eat raw...if the taters are relatively fresh and haven't started growing their greens it should be ok. He's a master gardener, not a nutritionist though, so take that with a grain of salt! LOL

organ meats--heart, lungs, tongue, kidneys, brain, etc (except liver!)--this may not seem strange compared to some, but an awful lot of people I know get completely grossed out when I say I like these things.

Out of those I've only had kidney and that's only in steak and kidney pie. I'm totally open minded to try the others though :)
  • fried chicken liver (with bread crumbs) tastes actually pretty good
oh and as a kid I liked bone marrow
