Hello everyone, I'm in a bit of a state this morning. Desperate, confused, upset... You know the deal. Just recently, no matter what I'm doing, I'm just constantly gaining weight. Since around the start of September, I've been gaining weight not losing. I'm carrying on as normal, eating well and to my calorie goal and working out 5-6 days per week. I've gained a crazy amount of weight in the last 8 weeks, 10 whole pounds.

I literally have no idea what I've been doing wrong. Do I lower my calorie intake? Exercise more? Help! :frown:

    Hi there,

It looks like you're either a. overestimating exercise or b. underestimating food intake.

Might be an idea to open your food diary?

    All the best

I agree with Hildy, something is off. I'm also interested to know what exercises you're doing and whether that routine concided with the start of the weight gain. A strength routine can add 5 or so lbs in a couple of weeks, mainly I think, because your body is holding onto water. When I am strength training I can go weeks staying the same weight or gaining before everything settles down

Even cardio can make you temporarily gain weight, if you stress the muscles enough and your body goes into "Oh noes must repair!" panic mode. I've had a few rest days this week (raced on Saturday, jogged Tuesday, then two icey cold rainy days, hope to jog this evening) and my weight has gone down a pound from last week, you might try letting your body rest a couple days to get an accurate weight.
  • friend, you simply may be trying too hard. and not eating enough . Open up your food diary so others may take a look. As to the exercise I have a question. Perhaps that 10 pounds is muscle weight. How are your clothes fitting . Sometimes that is a better judge of a healthy weight and spot for you to be in, than those scales. Take it easy on yourself and even take another look at why you are doing this and what goals you have set. To be healthy? To be a size 2? To weigh less than 100#? Let me know how it goes.

Sometimes we just need to step back and take a look at the basic. Are you weighing out/measuring your food? Taking extra BLTs (bites, licks, tastes)? Any new medicines? Changes in routine?

The important thing is to not give up. Keep working toward your goals.
