MFP cuts off the avatars weirdly and that is usually what is showing. As far as shirts off, those are usually progress shots and people happy with how far they came.

More serious answer, it is a diet and fitness site so people post their progress pictures. Like a lot of people I also have a serious professional side (managing director of a small business with a major bank as my current client) so don't really want to post recognisable public photos.

My profile on business site LinkedIn has me wearing a suit and trying to look professional. Different sites, different photos.

Also being butt-ugly might be a consideration of course.

A lot of people use MFP at work. There might also be other reasons why someone might wish to be not immediately identifiable in the real world.

Maybe they were all in a terrible accident, and were decapitated, but are being kept alive because of science. If that's the case, I think it's pretty cool.

It is a fitness site, so I try to post a new pic regularly and sometimes without a head. Sometimes, just feel a bit shy *shrugs*

Anonymity while being proud of what they have accomplished?

My guess that's it for the vast majority of them. Other's might be shy and a couple might be worried about their looks.

My longest running profile pic that I just changed from last night is a pic my torso, headless but with a shirt on. Mine was a combination of all three (I hadn't fit into that shirt in over 5 years).

I am always headless in my profile pics as I prefer quasi internet anonymity. Though I don't do shirtless pics as I am female and that would be a step too far.

I do faceless because I am able to look more objectively at myself if I don't see my face. It helps remove the attachment to what I think I look like. If I see my face I automatically see myself as 188 lbs. shrug* that's just me.

I just figured this was more of fitness site, so I did torso.....if I had guns like some of the other guys (and women) in here, I would do that......but I don't.
