Saw a lot of posts about going to a church or food pantry.
I'm a disabled veteran...and I am getting a little money in while I finish up my Masters. It's just the Post 9/11 GI bill. It really isn't enough to get a place....but it is enough to make sure I can eat and pay my car payment + insurance.
I wouldn't go take from a food pantry....as I see that as something for people with nothing. Since I can afford food...I should be just fine without all that.
I should be able to find work quickly and settle in somewhere. I may be in my car for a month or two. Either way I appreciate all the great advice here and the time all of you took to post. Never expected this kind of response.
It really isn't all that bad. Some of us are stuck on park benches...eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for breakfast lunch and dinner. I can't be too discouraged...there are people in way worse situations.
Again...thank you all very much for the time and effort.0 -
I am so sorry to hear about your situation, another thing to look at along with some of the suggestions you have had, is `couch surfing` check it out on your search engine.
Also, just because you can afford food at the moment, does not mean you can not visit food pantries for help.
I hope you find work fast, and find a good way out of the situation you are currently in :flowerforyou:0 -
Special K Cereal for breakfast w/skim milk. Don't have to buy a gallon. Some of the dollar stores have a quart.
Add pickles as a side to your PBJ sandwiches, and treat yourself to one serving of something like Sunchips.
Panera Bread - all you can drink coffee, and an everything bagel without cream cheese for a little over $3, plus the free wi-fi.0 -
Publix always has a lot of prepared foods in the deli section - like pasta salad, quinoa salad, that sort of thing. Might be a good choice for when you get bored with Subway. Also, in the deli section they have packets of 2 hard boiled eggs - if you go to the section where the eggs are, they only sell the pre-hard boiled ones in packets of like 6, which would need to be kept cold if you didn't use them all at once. But the packets of two would last at least overnight without refrigeration. I also like the pre-cooked tofu - you can slice and throw on a salad. I'd be less worried about leaving tofu unrefrigerated for a day than I would leaving chicken. And they have mini containers of hummus with crackers for dipping, and of course subs and roasted chickens, and such.
I make a lot of meals straight from Publix without the use of a microwave or other heating source.
Thanks for your service, and I'm sorry you're facing this situation.0
